Carla is Jui's best friend, or, rather, would like to be. She's energetic and fashion-conscious (when she's wearing clothes, that is). She works at the same crappy diner Jui does. When Jui is driven into the woods, chance and a good deal of conscious decision-making has Carla follow her out.
