I don't think that all art inherently romanticizes its subject matter, as that has a connotation of exaggerating it in a positive way. I think that art will never truly be able to replicate reality, that it will always in some way emphasize it. No one has an objective eye, so even photorealism is an interpretation of reality. I think vent art often ends up accidentally romanticizing the illness/pain the artist is trying to depict though. A person will put their pain into their art and when people see/like the art, subconsciously I feel it creates an association between the art and the illness. But idk, I'm interested in what you think.
