I've never heard of a salt-gun to kill flies, but that sounds absolutely badass, lol

So salt has a purification effect in so many religions and paranormal stuff but in large it is a purifier. you use it for curing meat and hinds, and cleaning wounds, (killing slugs) and many more uses. One of the reasons that before modern era Salt was just as or more expensive then most everything else.

1. Japan has a culture or festival to sprinkle salt everywhere symbolling to repel the evil spirit or devil away. So One Piece has this reference make so much sense in additional to the sea energy impact to the devil fruit users. 2. Do you notice that Robin started to call or reference her crew member in names instead of their role? I love this kind of subtle detail, symbolling Robin opened her heart and started to trust her crew wholeheartedly. Very subtle, but powerful. One Piece always given me such detail touch here and there I really love it.

It is fun when you call so many things, so far before they are even hinted at, and then miss what the story is trying to put right in front of your face for so long. And Dresden Files goes into a list of why salt is just such a useful substance to use for things like making protective circles, it's easily found in most homes, easily poured into a circle, and trying to use sugar for it is the sort of thing you only try once, and then regret till you pay off the exterminator.
