I liked Ace's observation here about there being a deeper reason for a pirate to want to overtake a kingdom. The difference between Kuro and Crocodile is that Croc already has the government off his back as long as he takes down other pirates, unlike Kuro who was sick of being pursued by navy in east blue. In fact I think during that fight, Luffy said to him something along the lines of, "you don't have it in you to be a pirate" (i'm paraphrasing quite poorly here lol). But in the grandline, the pirates are legit. Especially the ones strong enough or ambitious enough to become an official Warlord of the Sea.

Again Luffy never said he not drinks alcohol. It was filler. But I really like that thought. It's like he's natural high:)
