If I'm going to fully draw anything for Halloween this year, the clock is ticking. Today has so far been a much-needed rest day, so that really only leaves tomorrow. I have no shortage of ideas to pick from, but work has been a bit taxing, lately.

A little over a week ago, I started a massive update to my employer's characters. The characters' rigs aren't any different from a user standpoint, but they're all shared now, so it's easier to add controls across all characters. Plus I added controls for better elbow deformation while I was at it, so there's that.

The thing about updating these character rigs, is even a tiny change means every character and animation needs to be re-exported. The last major change I'd made, it took me and one other guy over two days to export just the character models. The animations took a couple days more. Not wanting to go through that again, I wrote a batch-export script that, once I got it working bug-free, managed to export all 50 character models in under 2 hours. But it still took me the past 3 days to test that and other scripts, export the animations, and get everything working in the engine.

Thumbnail sketches may be the extent of my personal art, for a while longer. When this contract started, my boss figured the client would likely want to extend it by the end. Two months in, he was right. The contract has officially been extended to the end of Match, and quite possibly could go further than that. On one hand, I don't like the idea of having the current comic story on hold for that long. But on the other hand, the pay is good, and so far animating isn't one of my responsibilities, which is a bonus.
