What a difference a few days can make - I went from having an abundance of time to devote to the comic - though slowed down by financial anxiety - to now scrambling to get this next page finished in the next couple of days.

I still can't believe how quickly it happened. Last Monday, I was hit with the reality that staying afloat with commissions may not be feasible, at the moment. Later that day, my boss calls me about a potential gig that could last at least 4 months. 3 days later, terms & pay rate were agreed to, and the contract was being drawn up. I start this coming Monday.

Now I thinking of how to balance the comic and this new job. I could aim for one page a month, but that would mean that this current scene of Alice & Daisy talking at the dinner table won't be wrapped up until some time in September. To do more than one page a month, I could scale things back - switch to black & white, re-use backgrounds, and only do new backgrounds for establishing shots or when absolutely necessary. Stuff that pretty much every other comic artist figured out a long time ago.

I could make some decisive cuts to the story, but there are some fun bits I've had in mind for years that I'm finally getting to, so that's a no.  No matter what I do, Daisy's long weekend - she's away from the diner for only 3-4 days - is going to take a while to get through.

I say go for the 1 page per month. I doubt anyone will complain about how long that takes.
