As you may or may not have heard, Patreon recently made some changes to their fees.  It used to be that they'd take a percentage out of the total processed pledges each month.  Now they're taking less from the artists...  and instead charging you extra.

What I don't know is how transparent they are being, apart from sending everyone an email about the new fees.  Do they tell you how much your pledge is actually going to cost you?  Just in case they don't, I will.  I've updated the descriptions of my reward tiers to reflect what the actual cost may be.

If this means that any of you have to adjust your pledge or bow out, I understand.  I'm honored to have your support, even if it's only for a little while.  And if you do bow out, please remember to leave feedback letting Patreon know it was their fault.

I can understand the reasoning, but it's a real dick move making the patrons pay for this. I'm sure Patreon already takes a cut from all the pledges, to begin with. For me personally they should take it from their cut, they're providing the service, not the customers.

As far as I know they still take a 5% cut, but with the service charge it ended being a lot more they took from the artists cut

The part that gets me is, I and every other artist were perfectly fine with Patreon taking a cut before. They even changed it at one point so that on our front pages, it'd show us the estimated final amount after their cut. As a result, I never even thought about how much of the total I wasn't getting. As far as I was concerned, Patreon's portion simply never existed.

Their new system punishes people who support multiple creators for a small amount, which I always saw as one of the strengths of this platform. I think a lot of creators are going to lose a lot of pledges from this, and they're going to start looking elsewhere.
