Interesting direction. To me Carl felt a bit like a background character, so having some context for him gives the story more depth. I also like the side notes about the town and it's history, felt like the other routes were focused more on the characters and not enough on what was happening around them this one found a good balance to that.

Alright, here are my personal thoughts on this update. For starters, I agree with the above comments that the backstory provided in this update, both on Carl and the town, was definitely engaging. Knowing that he's rich gives some welcome depth to his character that was earlier missing, and seeing depths of his personality that go beyond the previously shown "relaxed stoner guy" parts we got earlier are nice. I enjoyed, also, the way in which you continue to tease the possibility of a love story with him without just giving it to us. One of my complaints with visual novels like this in the past has been that the PC seems to be the most attractive person on the planet to every other main character around them, and although this seems to be definitely happening with Leo, Flynn, and TJ (and maybe with Jenna?), it hasn't happened yet with Carl. Yet, you've teased it in very slight ways, and I've found that enjoyable, even if he is into Chase in the end. The ending was appropriately creepy. This game's creepy factor hasn't lessened or gotten so much that it becomes the only focus of the game. Good on you for that. Alright, my biggest complaint with this is that I didn't feel any dramatic tension during the scenes with Carl, really, at all. There were moments - when Flynn was in the backyard, when Sydney comes on the TV, when you hear the voice - that were tense and all that, but there was nothing overarching, underscoring everything, and that made this update feel rather empty to me. This has been present, too, in all the other updates, which has made them feel more fulfilling. With Leo, it's obvious: because he's obsessed with Chase and hasn't been living his life in the face of it. With the Flynn update, the tension came from the outburst he'd had the previous day - the entire time, I couldn't help but feel that Chase was continually angry at him, even if under things, and I was also kept in suspense just wondering the entire time if Flynn was gonna start going nuts again. With the TJ-centric update, it came from the fact that you realized from the previous day that he's seen some really messed-up shit, and it had all just been brought back to the surface in full. Add to that the newfound romantic and sexual tension of TJ's Tuesday, and it lent itself to a sort of feeling that "you can fix him", you know? I just didn't feel like there was anything comparable in this update for Carl. Now, perhaps you've something planned, something that hasn't emerged yet, or you're even just waiting to put something like that in even though you don't know what it is, and that's fine and all. My biggest recommendation would just be to make sure that something like that ends up here for Carl, and later, Jenna. That way, no matter which path the player chooses, they're going to end up with a route for each that has appropriate dramatic tension all throughout, making each fulfilling in its own, separate way.
