Alright guys, here's an example of what a finished sprite might look like. We tried to tone down that chronically bro look and make his features more gentle and sincere. This would be TJ's neutral. Don't hold back, let us know what you think.

We're thinking of doing one more character so we can get a broader sense of the look.

It might be worth doing Flynn's sprite next. The two characters are like night and day personality-wise and Tuler is not known for scalie art. It would give a helpful contrast.

MissingKeys

As much as his new sprite looks good I personally preferred how leaner he looked in his own one, his new one is like I said still good! I just preferred the old one xD.

Kind of agreed with MissingKeys. You did say that his "new" design is actually just making him look more like his species, but previous TJ had this whole "kind of fragile and innocent" look to him that made him endearing. That said! Aside from the slightly too buff neck (again probably just design), I'm very much sold about Tuler being the sprite artist. The more muted colors, fur style, and just overall design fit the Echo theme quite well!

As a voice to the contrary, I prefer the new look. It contrasts with the nervousness and is a little less typical. Aside from his phobias, and if I take TJ's character as written without the old design in mind, I find it fits really well for a straitlaced Christian athletic type (I swear, I know people like that in real life and they do look like they'd be bro-y, but are honestly not). He would still endear me, but I wouldn't know if he'd be less endearing to most, though...perhaps a test run with this sprite in the game with other new sprites will be the best indicator. If it was decided leaner is best, I'd probably be happy either way.

Joseph Goldthorp

I'd like to start off by saying WOW HE'S FLUFFY. This sprite is great! It retains several aspects of his character I remember dearly from the demo. He looks composed with some slack and is smiling cheerfully like the TJ I've gotten to know over this impressive and cohesive demo. Now, I've read through the rest of the feed so I'll try not to just repeat anything that's already been talked half to death, but here's what I'm thinking: I too have gotten used to TJ being the shortest and skinniest guy. This pic makes him look taller and buffer. Of course, he's a FLUFFY FLUFFY Canadian Lynx and Super-Tuler (based on a quick hour of tumblr research) clearly excels in drawing Broad Buff Bara Bears. I really like his artwork. I REALLY like his artwork, but I think he'd have to reel back a bit from his common style and tailor a design for Echo, a game full of eerie subtexts, mystery, and horror. TJ is innocent, fun-loving, hates long car rides, and wants to go out and hike, but he's also anxious and might be hiding something. Also: a lot of us ("We the Patrons!") have (according to many comments) internalized that physically he's not a bara-bear, but more of a swimming/track build. This design... he's still fairly svelte, but I'm just used to him being sveltier. I also think the design makes him look bigger (taller). Maybe it'd look better if we even just took the design and shrunk it down so he's still like 5'7". or 4'. Idk, he's the short guy! I think expressive sprites add a whole lot to the game, but it wouldn't be Echo if the sprites were all brightly-colored happy chibis. Can still be cartoonish (They are furries, for heaven's sake. Furries are anti-realistic!) and further, this is the upbeat TJ, but cartoons can depict dark themes. And a touch darker is what I think Echo calls for. Suggestion: Uh, maybe it'd be a good idea to experiment with darker tones and other expressions. Do some sketches of other expressions and keep the character drawing style open, if you're still considering a change in his style. Nothing hyper drastic. Don't turn him into a fire-breathing-dragon or a Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm thinking it'd be good to consider the last river scene in the demo. Think about his character. Try drawing Teej when he's out looking distant/despondant/vague gloom. You know, with some of that kind of distant teen angst look? I think the design of that sprite, and that emotion, will be integral to the atmosphere of this game. No pressure or anything. Lol To close this great big giant essay: Tuler: This project looks like it might be a different course from the art of yours I've seen. I hope you'll take this chance to adopt a new take on character design, expression, and art. I am excited to see where you go and how you take these characters! Team Echo: Most of all, I hope that my comments are here helpful and critically constructive and not come off like I'm some jerk yelling across the internet. I really like the atmosphere set by the dialogue. I am really impressed by some of the music (am a lower level spare-time-music-comp nerd)! I am stoked to see what you guys do with the rest of this game!

Though I agree that he looks perhaps too buff, I really like the stylistic change. The new style seems like it has a lot more potential for expression, and he does look more in-line with his character in general. I hope you guys consider doing Jenna next (she's my favorite so far)!

I believe it would help having darker colours in is neck (not white, but grey, as the colour inside of the arms) so that there's a more positive correlation with the story; decrease the neck size (it's just too much), the body is fine, if there's a decrease in the fur perception on his neck the problem gets solved.. My last question is more general to the game.. Furry anime-kawai horror or furry anime-realistic horror, what look are you, the creator, going for?

EchoGame

This artist is no longer part of the project. We'll be uploading new sprites in the next week or so that you can have a look at and critique. As for the look; I'm not too familiar with anime, but what we want is something more expressive. I suppose you could say that we want something a bit more "cartoonish" at least in the face.
