She has a bikini contest winner's body, piercing bright blue eyes, and long wavy black locks of thick hair. A firecracker cutie, petite like me. But she's only 19 and didn't know of what she was signed up for, as a designated nude model on the Caribbean Dream Shoot trip in Puerto Rico. The way this trip works: models are selected by the event organizer and if sponsored by a photographer, they are confirmed for the trip. Her starry eyes said yes, but halfway through the trip she became disenchanted with the idea of multiple photographers she had not met before taking nude photos of her and posting them online. I saw a younger version of myself in her, there was a time when I was starting out that my loved ones expressed disdain of my sexy photos. One must be committed to it. "I feel like a joke, like I'm not really a model... like I'm just a girl on instagram..." she confided to me. There is definitely an element of shyness, of image, and confidence that needs to metamorphosize when a girl chooses to pose nude photographically for a living. I emphasized with her, yet was somewhat disappointed that she wanted to renig her choice to pose nude toward the end of the trip. But I'm definitely biased, as a full time nude model and advocate of shameless nudity. Her sponsor photographer was unhappy. I give her props for making the effort, being punctual at shoots during the trip, and not showing up hung over. Unfortunately, most freelance models have to carve their comfort zone out through trial and error.
