So, I decided to delve into Bowsette territory. I used this piece as an excuse to experiment with several new things.

The first experiment was using a new brush preset for bold line work that would go well with a cel shaded rendering style. It's kind of a brush pen type of feel. Worked out well, and I feel it was expressive enough to capture the right line quality for the piece I was going for.

The second experiment was kind of "cel shade++". Has the approximated rendering of cel shading, but has some added bells and whistles to pop the character and add interest. Several ++ elements would be rim light, light blooms on specular highlights, and color variation in the shadow regions of the shading, taken from background colors.

And to finish it off, there is a "master bloom" effect to kind of add softness to highlights and add slight dreamy quality.

Interested in hearing thoughts on this art style, as it's a departure from what I've been doing as of late.
