Quite like this chapter, especially mention of how “reasonable” (=not savvy enough) maesters died. Maester Cal is good at his job, pity such men rarely survive long to see the results of their harsh yet direly needed actions

Thanks, and yes, unfortunately the 'reasonable' maesters did everything by the book and died, leaving Maester Cal in charge. No one will be able to deny he is doing what needs to be done (and that the ruling House of the lands has not necessarily the guts to order) but once the disease is gone, he will need to run very quickly for he has accumulated a lot of enemies...
