Hi Patrons,

Hope you're all having a nice day - the following is an update on the latest animation and what I've been working on.

New Blogpost

Last week I published a full blogpost that goes over my inspirations and goals for Gildedguy & the Dragon of Mar

You can read it here:

https://gildedguy.com/working-on-dragon-anim/

I'll likely do at least another production blog post in a few months, but you guys will be getting the regular updates here on Patreon.

Production Pace

I spent a day crunching out some basic numbers to answer basic production questions -

  • How many minutes of footage will need to be animated per month?
  • How much budget should be allotted where?
  • How much quality will we be able to put into each scene?

Determining some of these "How" 's is essential to preventing development hell, something I've experienced with many of my early hobby projects. So at the end of the calculations, I learned that the the golden metric is:

2 Minutes of Animation per Month

This is twice my usual pace, but I feel a lot more confident in the execution of the project now that I know the target. As of right now, work has been laid out for 26/34 of Chapter 1's scenes. Chapter 1 is roughly 2 minutes long, so 76% of this month's scenes are in WIP status.

Sticker Design Contest

Recently we finally sold out of all the round stickers from 2020, so it is now time to design a fresh batch of forty! Just like before, we'll be opening the design floor to the community and fanart:

We've already received several designs, and I'm excited to get the select the new designs, print and ship 'em to lucky giveaway winners and customers.

I'll also be contributing my and the production team's own designs (some drafts pictured here).

Finished Opening Scenes

Since things are progressing at a heightened pace, I already have some finished scenes to show off (from the intro). There will be additional compositing later on, but these are already animated and inked:

Thanks for checking in on this update!
