Gildedguy Premieres this Friday in FORTNITE (Patreon)

I'm excited to announce that Gildedguy Gets Up (Story #0) will be world premiering in Fortnite's "Short Nite" Film Festival! Millions of players will be able to watch the new animation in-game on the virtual big screen for free.

"Short Nite is back! This time, join your friends in Party Royale for a series of animated, online shorts by up-and-coming-creators.  Included is the world premiere of the next entry of the popular Gildedguy series! The event kicks off on Friday, July 23, 2021, at 2 PM ET. If you can’t make the debut, the short films will continue to play non-stop until 2 PM ET on July 25.

"This latest Short Nite includes a variety of shorts that are comedic, rhythmic, and action-packed. Included in the schedule are two shorts from the full-of-action Gildedguy saga, including the world premiere of the next entry Gildedguy Gets Up!(featuring music by Emma Stevens). The total runtime of the shorts is about 40 minutes, and the show will run non-stop for the whole event. (So jump in whenever you want!) 

If you’re new to Party Royale, check out our guide for getting to the Big Screen. Players will also have the option to watch Short Nite 2 in standard Battle Royale via Picture-in-Picture, available during certain times of the event and accessible through the settings."

You may be wondering how this even happened - turns out, there are fans of Gildedguy at Epic! So this opportunity fell outta the sky onto my lap and I just had to take it.

I'd also like to assure you guys that the animation itself still belongs to me, and we'll be doing a separate online Twitch/YouTube premiere shortly after the event (Jul 27th), just like previous years.

Gilded-Garbed: Gildedguy Enters the Fortnite Item Shop!

Being masters of marketing, Epic decided to make Gildedguy the headliner of the event, so we'll be celebrating the event with the release of a Gildedguy Fortnite Skin. What the heck!

"In celebration of the Gildedguy Gets Up! premiere in Short Nite 2 Webgen, Gildedguy is joining the fight on the Fortnite Island. No stranger to battling, Gildedguy will be available in the Fortnite Item Shop starting July 22 at 8 PM ET alongside the new Slush Fighter Cape Back Bling and Stellapen Smashpack Pickaxe!"

Epic has been incredibly supportive during the past 4 months. A ton of legal, marketing, and art work was invested into this collaboration. SO many Zoom calls!!

Double Feature

Since this'll be a film festival, there will be other animations from the web playing on screen, including works from Adam Philips (Bitey of Brackenwood), Mystery Skulls, and Snail's House. Great, synchronized music all around! What an honor for my work to be shown alongside these internet legends.

Alongside the premiere of Story #0, Gildedguy vs Oxob (#6) will also be re-showing in Fortnite. Two Gildedguy animations in the same event!

Director's Cut

We're not allowed to stream footage of the event, so you'll need to attend the event in-game in order to catch the first viewing with me at 2PM ET. I'll be streaming leading up to the event though, so there will be ample time to get ready.

An important thing I must mention is that the versions of the new animations premiering in Short Nite have been modified to avoid copyright & running-time issues, particularly the use of certain characters (OC's). This means that only the final YouTube release of "Gildedguy Gets Up" will contain Patrons' special cameos, and the full ending sequence. 

I'll be making a separate post detailing all the special locations of the cameos so you don't have to hunt for your easter egg if you don't want to.

The first thing that came to mind when I received this opportunity was - I hope the patrons will understand. Managing expectation is a big part of film-making, and I'm glad that I have supporters like yourselves who can wait for months at a time for a release. 

This is not something that can be easily done with, say, executive investors. They would've demanded answers and refused to financially support me unless they knew what was going on.

Keeping this a secret and testing your patience was very worrying for me at the time, and it's not something I want to make a habit of doing. So I am very fortunate that you guys had faith in the animation's completion, which was finished back in March. 

Since then, as you're aware, I've been upgrading my overlay, getting a headstart on #7, and tidying up my office functions (forming an LLC, cleaning up my accounting).

I love game dev, and I don't think you can get any bigger than Fortnite as a virtual-venue for exposing your passion project. This is like a dream come true!
