Saturday Update! (Patreon)

Hello again! It's the weekend and it's time for some more sprites!

I think I got a relatively okay amount of work done last week. The heatwave finally ended mid week and I was finally able to sleep for more than an hour at a time 😩💚

I do think that my old quota of 30-35 might be a bit unreasonable now that I've moved on from sprite sets with a ton of of expressions though [ I got 25 done last week ]. I can pump out an expression in like 15-20mins, but fresh bases and pose changes take a lot longer. The rest of the art is a lot more varied in poses- stuff that's more to the cg/full screen art side of the spectrum.

Although honestly, that doesn't really change anything LMAO My approach has always been to just get what I can get done without pressuring myself too much. This project is too large to risk crunch and burnout. Better to just keep doing what I can do and say 'it'll be done when it's done'!

Anyway, let's get into it!

The first thing I worked on was my last 'major sprite set':

Starting off nice and cute because the other two poses I worked on are a little more aggressive LMAO

I also took some time to do a bit of coding for the rest of the sprites I worked on. I originally drew the placeholders with these sort of comic book style black bars for emphasis.

This effect was alright, but once I got to the art, I thought I could improve the effect a bit by coding in the black bar separately and animating them.

It's fairly subtle and might be hard to see in the gif, but I swear it looks a lot more polished on the full sized game with no watermarks LMAO

The other advantage to animating the bars is that I was able to make a cool transition to the last pose I worked on last week!

 I feel like this sequence is a lot nicer with the changes! ^o^

I think next week I want to shake it up a little and do at least a few Ren sprites 🤔
