Page Commentary No. 319 (Patreon)

Gunwild: The "arcade rug" in the last panel was so striking that my family bought me a little throw rug reminiscent of it as a birthday present.

Psu: I think it shows our age ya know, we know in our hearts the best places had that saved by the bell 90's pattern. Cheap pizza, a quarter a play, people lined up to play, the sound of air hockey. However in retrospect, it might not be a good idea to have a carpet on a boardwalk arcade. I can't imagine keeping sand out of it all day...

Gunwild: They probably have laser-roombas! There are a lot of little details in this one, like the crab on the claw machine. Oh, and tentacle dogs. I'd try one of those.

Psu: Heh, yeah I kinda went a little ham on that last panel. It was also just a rare chance to show Cassiopeia actually angry. I appreciate this chapter allowing us to have dramatic moments and then cutting away to Cassiopeia. It's maybe something that wouldn't fit it every kind of story we do, but it works for the beach episode. We never want to be THAT serious and heavy even when dealing with space conspiracies, do we?

Gunwild: Baseball T-Shrit that just says "BAND" would be a fun thing to wear to say, a summer concert, eh Psu?

Psu: I dunno if I'm ironic or cool enough to pull it off. I'm not even sure Zeke is. Zeke probably just likes this actual band called BAND. But I wouldn't get the music...

Gunwild: I did enjoy saying Headhunter isn't there to brighten up the room.

Psu: That's a good line. You do good smart dialog. At least I think so anyway. We should discuss the rest of this page before we get into the fun easter eggs though. Like... you wanna say anything about this reveal? We discussed it a LOT.

Gunwild: I don't know. We didn't actually do the REAL reveal here.

Psu: We have layers! But yeah, I think it came down to how much we wanted to just GIVE the reader and what we wanted the heroes to discover for the readers. I thought the latter would give our cast a little more to do.

Gunwild: So what's the best thing you ever won in a claw machine?

Psu: Shoot uhhh.... I know I did win something in an actual claw machine but it wasn't too fancy. I will say I did get TWO stuffed cats in one claw machine pull, but that was in the videogame "Like a Dragon." I guess that doesn't quite count. You?

Gunwild: Big Tasmanian Devil stuffed animal. I gave it away but it still felt like quite a prize! Still, I think I prefer gashapon machines. At least you always get something.

Psu: That's pretty rad. Anyway, I stuffed this machine with toys that I would like for myself based on some comics I've worked on. Anytime you get to make toys of characters for a background of a cartoon, is a chance you can sneak in a cameo. However, are we bending reality a bit to have Cassiopeia steal her own toy? Also is this the first appearance of the red jacket?

Gunwild: It might be...! Also, Cassiopeia is well-known. Of course she wants all the unlicensed toys of her.

Psu: She probably has some choice words about stringent copyright law and piracy...
