Page Commentary No. 172 (Patreon)

Psu: Beautiful guest page. And we have a guest here commenting with us for it.

Rob: it was a long time ago so i've really got to dig deep for this one, lol 

Gunwild: This is one of the few guest pages I didn't write myself. The gag is nice and simple and lands, and the artist is fantastic, so I was like "I would be stupid to not let them do basically what they want."

Psu: By the way. Rob over here is the writer of the webcomic Miss Melee. And I think it’s fair to say, Gunwild and I are fans. This isn’t the first crossover guest thing we’ve done, I think. The first thing was a Halloween crossover from a few years ago...

Gunwild: Well that didn't run as a page, but it was a cool art exchange, and I will link it again in case anyone reading this isn't aware!

Psu: I think we sorta just offered Rob and Liefeldian, whatever they wanted to do. So like... what ideas did you guys go through? Was this the first one that came to mind?

Rob: the original idea, and i still have the script for it, was basically what the final page ended up being, but instead of dresses, maddy's closet was filled with copies of cassiopeia's outfit. i felt that better fit the character of cassiopeia quinn as had been presented in the comic up to that time but you guys felt differently so we hashed things out a bit and landed on a revision that was the final script that made it into the comic so basically a 2-draft wonder

Gunwild: Oh wow, so I didn't REALLY let you do whatever you want... but yeah this way it's sort of tagging a joke we did earlier in the comic where Cassiopeia sends Maddy, her direct opponent, a pretty dress for her birthday.

Psu: Heh. Okay, I guess we DID miss the opportunity for Maddy in Cassiopeia’s outfit. But I think we did establish that Cassiopeia’s a LITTLE thoughtful. She’s only gonna put her brand on something if it doesn’t take away from someone’s personal aesthetic! So since it was another nice thing for Maddy, well it was probably just more nice things that Maddy likes. Which makes me wish we drew Maddy in more outfits. Which also makes me wish we had Liefeldian draw Maddy a few more times. Think we can make that happen?

Rob: never say never!

Gunwild: The Miss Melee team is very busy and, unlike us, highly professional. But we'll be sure to make time to beg them to show up again. Also here's another link, go read their comic!
