Page Commentary No. 57 (Patreon)

Psu: I'll get this out of the way, Farring's coloring on this page is all wrong, so is how he's drawn. THAT SAID HOWEVER, I like the rest of it. This is such a wonderful little close and if I never saw the Vanaa again this would've been as good a way to say goodbye as any.

Gunwild: Yeah, they get a bit more of an affectionate goodbye than many a Star Trek race.

Psu: Gleb isn't in that goodbye panel because it might feel odd to have a character that just revealed to the audience his deception in a heartfelt goodbye.

Gunwild: I also wanna clarify that although touching is normally a very intimate thing for Vanaa, Nimoo is imagining Ison piggybacking on him because he would also like to ride off into adventure! Also note that Skwidj messes up his salute in the last panel. It's a bit of an odd gesture when you think about it.

Psu: Heh, I was gonna mention that Nimoo thing. But I just realized something, those industrious Vanaa must've fixed the bridge door! It was broken last time! Honestly, that was probably me having just forgotten. It was at least a few months since I drew the door breaking open and this last shot. It might've been a nice detail to add and a way to remember Skwidj's bravery!

Gunwild: I figure Script Kitty was the main thing messing it up, they probably just needed to, I dunno, pull it back onto its runners like a closet door.

Psu: Dude man, remember Skwidj totally warped it!

Gunwild: Much like Michael Gambon talking about the Potter movies, I remember nothing! Oh wait, I meant in the commentaries and interviews. Not his later actual memory problems as he had to retire.

Psu: Man, I'll remember the feeling of putting this page to rest though. It was a challenging production. I had just started doing Cassiopeia in full color. And I really came to like a lot of the Vanaa. I hadn't expected to be drawing them so much in the rest of the comic. So the mix of challenge and success, gives me a warm feeling every time I see this friendly page.

Gunwild: I'm glad we've gotten to bring them back. Every one of these gloobs has a role in their advanturing party... except Sideburns. Sideburns thinks these people are weird and has work to do!

Psu: Heh. I think we should mention Old Salt. I think we get a lot of Farring out there, in terms of his history and story even if he isn't really a fan favorite character. But I think his perspective gives us a lot of the universe to talk about. His career isn't full drawn up but it lets us talk about some pretty interesting shady people.

Gunwild: I like that we got to mention Salt this far ahead of time, too, since we definitely knew we wanted to have evil, threatening Vanaa. How could we resist?

Psu: I like seeding! I like that we're actually get to use our seeds now!

Gunwild: I like sunflower seeds.
