Hey everyone, long time no music!! (The Codex song is still in progress, but a multitude of obstacles have cropped up in its path, so the music video is, yet again, temporarily stalled.) Meanwhile, I've been working on the EP of mermaid original songs I'm aiming to release in August!

So far, the EP will include Jolly Sailor Bold (already released), the original mermaid song I wrote and recorded a demo for last summer (Come In, unreleased), and 3-4 new original songs including this one, "Wine-Dark Grave." The title is a Homer reference that I thought apt considering that I'm pulling inspiration from his description of Sirens for another song:

If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song. There is a great heap of dead men’s bones lying all around, with the flesh still rotting off them.

Of course, these sirens were not sea-going, which I'm sure you've all heard my rant about at this point, haha.

ANYWAY! These are final vocals but not final instrumentation or mixing. The final versions of these tracks will be popping up over the next month and a half while I get final versions together and start working on the debut music video(s??). Here are the lyrics in case that's your thing!

I too once tasted the salt air
Lay in the sand where,
Feet bare
I reveled in sun
I too once thought I was home there
Wasn’t alone there,
Up where
It all came undone
Now I decay beneath the waves
My wine-dark grave
I envy tides, they come and go
I’m too late to save
I too once stood on the seashore
Hearing the waves roar,
Downpour
When once I could weep
I too once heard someone calling (ahh)
A song in the squalling
Falling,
I sank in the deep
Now I decay beneath the waves
My wine-dark grave
I envy tides, they come and go
I’m too late to save
[aahs]
I too once gave in
I too once gave in
I too once gave in
Let the ocean win
Come let’s decay beneath the waves
Our wine-dark grave
We’ll be the tides, that come and go
We’re too late to save
You’re too late to save
