Upcoming Patreon Changes! (Patreon)

Hey friends! I've been working on some updates for Patreon that I'll be putting into place for December. I'll be hosting a livestream on Friday at 4pm MT to go over the changes and hear your questions and thoughts — the link will go up in a new post here on Patreon 10-20 minutes beforehand, and you'll need a YouTube account to participate in chat. And of course, I welcome your questions and feedback in the replies here, on Discord, and over private message!

What's Changing?

$1 — Di-light tier

I will be archiving the $1 Di-light tier and creating a new Di-light tier that is priced at $2. Patreon's internal research has repeatedly shown that a $1 tier is ultimately detrimental to creators because it both reduces the perceived value of their rewards, and results in a large percentage of the pledge amount disappearing into fees.

CURRENT $1 PLEDGES, YOUR PLEDGE & REWARDS WILL NOT CHANGE! You will be grandfathered into the $1 Di-light tier (which I am currently referring to as "OG Di-lights" — I welcome better name suggestions, haha!) and can continue receiving the same rewards at that price for as long as you choose. If you leave Patreon or raise your pledge, you will lose that grandfathered status. You are, of course, welcome to raise your pledge to $2 if you want to!

$5 — Di-sciple tier

The "additional livestreams" benefit is just getting clarified! This will now become a minimum of 3 additional livestreams per month. This is mostly just to help me see that reward as quantifiable, so I can better schedule for it.

$15 — Di-votee tier

The "monthly tutorial" benefit is being replaced with a Patron-exclusive monthly commentary video. Tutorials have been performing poorly on my YouTube lately, and based on survey results, many of my Patrons are not yourselves crafters and do not find value in them. I will still occasionally create tutorials, but they will no longer be a monthly reward. Instead, I am introducing a new reward: A monthly commentary video that will be available only to Patrons in this tier and above. In this video, I will review that month's big project and chat about how it was made, what challenges I faced, fun behind-the-scenes stories, etc.

$35 — Di-ety tier

No changes here!

$100 — Di's Nuts tier

I am introducing a new tier at the $100 level! This tier will be reward-light — it is designed not to be a complete new tier, but instead as a place where those who wish to pledge more, even just for a single month, can do so easily. The rewards will be a merch item of your choice (t-shirt, water bottle, mug, tote bag, etc.) with a "Di's Nuts" design exclusively available through this tier, a special Discord role, and, of course, bragging rights.

Other Changes

• The Patron Spotlight feature is changing! The one-on-one interviews were generating stress and pressure for those being featured, which is the opposite of what I want. Starting in 2021, the Patron Spotlight will become a monthly round-up of Patrons' creations and photos. I will accept submissions via a special channel in the Discord. More info on this closer to the new year!
• Monthly reward recap posts will now be introduced alongside the monthly reward emails, for those who prefer to access that information here on Patreon. The reward emails will continue, mostly because some people turn off Patreon post email notifications and those emails are the most convenient way for those people to review their monthly rewards.
