Just a few small updates on Thumbelina! I threw together a quick sketch to test where I wanted to place flowers and embellishments, and then got to work on the sewing. I finished up the blouse (ill-fitting on the dressform, but neater on me — and to be largely concealed by a corset, eventually) and got started on the corset, and then layered some fabrics to see how the skirt might look.

For the blouse, I worked from a regency dress pattern and used three different fabrics to bring some texture into what is otherwise a very simple design. I'm not thrilled with the eyelet lace on the body of the shirt, but I'm waiting until the corset is done to see how much of it shows before I replace it.

For the corset, I'm starting with a spray painted gradient lace laid over a turquoise satin, and lined in cotton scrap that I had lying around. I'm working from a pattern I drafted years ago from my own measurements. I had to order some new corset bones, since all of mine are too long for this design, so that piece is temporarily on hold while I wait for materials.

Meanwhile, I layered three fabrics for the skirt to see how the combination looks. There's a satin base layer, then a chiffon overlay, and finally an illusion lace to add texture and depth. The skirt won't be floor length, of course! I'll probably start cutting the skirt tomorrow, since it's one of the only things I can work on without further materials.
