Hello! Pike is making me nervous right now and I've been really wanting to sew, so I did something impulsive this week and started working on Keyleth. I've been thinking that her costume from the Vox Machina: Origins comic (the image above) would be perfect to wear to the Renaissance Festival, since it's lightweight and comfortable (and best of all, doesn't require body paint!) There are two variations pictured — I'm doing the green one on the left, but they're near identical aside from color and a few small details, and the image on the right is a better reference image for the garments.

I started by sketching out the pieces to make sure I understood them, and then I took a trip to the fabric store. I swear I paced every aisle three or four times before I'd convinced myself they didn't have the colors I wanted. Finally I picked up four yards of a pretty green rayon and committed myself to dyeing a yard of it a little darker.

Then I jumped right in! I patterned the bralette top on stream for $5+ Patrons (you can watch it here if you missed it!) and got a pretty solid (extremely messy!!) mockup done. This was done using scraps in order to make sure all my techniques would work, such as my plan for the cutouts, and to test the fit on my actual body.

Right after the stream, I was still coasting on good stream energy, so I went ahead and finalized the (faux) leather neckpiece of this garment! It closes on the left side of the neck with two snaps.

A few people expressed interest on the stream in a tutorial about how to do cutouts like these! They were actually super easy, so I'll get working on a video about that.

The fabric of the bralette is the darker of the two green shades, so I can't finish this garment until I've dyed my fabric — and I want to make sure I dye the right amount of fabric, so I think I'm going to pattern out the overdress first, so I know exactly what pattern pieces I need to fit where.

I tried to work on the headdress today but the cosplay gods were against me — couldn't find my hacksaw, couldn't figure out how to switch dremel attachments on my new dremel, and then couldn't find my bailing wire, so I just gave up, haha.

Anyway, this will hopefully be a quick project, and once I've gotten the sewing out of my system, I'll get back to work on Pike! (Pike is actually going very well, I'm just... still afraid for some reason.)

(Also I promise I plan on making some not-Critical-Role costumes again soon. Seriously, I have stuff in the works!!)
