Thanks for all your feedback on my last post! This blog is more for creators than consumers, but it does lay out some of the issues and recent developments in the "Patreon fees" department.

I wanted to just make sure you guys know I'm not planning on leaving Patreon. As frustrating as the changes are, there are still a lot of reasons I love Patreon, and I love getting to connect with you folks here — plus, obviously, I really depend on the money. However, I will be making some changes to my tiers for 2018. I will be keeping you updated and asking for feedback as I work on this, so please don't hesitate to weigh in!

Should Creators Ditch Patreon?

If you're a Patreon user - be that creator, patron, or, like me, both - you have undoubtedly been hearing the hubbub about the upcoming fee changes. There's a lot more information from Patreon here, but here's the gist of it...

Excellent explanation, you should make it available for other Creators to help their patrons. I will continue to support you and the others I already pledge. Perhaps send out any monthly rewards on the following month’s 15th. That way you won’t have to stagger rewards to match staggered pledges. Keep up the good work 👍🏼

I have, this is a public blog! (And a public Patreon post!) I just wanted to share it with you guys with the disclaimer that I'm not ditching Patreon, since the title could give some people a start! 😜 I definitely considered sending out rewards the following month, but that means that new pledges don't get rewards for up to 30 days after pledging (depending on their pledge date), which seems like a bad way to welcome new pledges... definitely something I need to put a lot of thought into.

You could send new pledges a signed business card or a Ginny sticker when they join and then still send all the rewards in monthly batches.

This is a great post and I'm going to be sharing it to my Patrons. Thank youi for taking the time to research all this and write it out. I will ALWAYS be a Patron of yours- your wisdom, insight, hard work, and actual transparency are worth every penny.

Oh, a welcome gift is a nice idea! I'll definitely consider that.

Good luck! :( I know this is going to be a rough period for a lot of creators.

Honestly, yes, I think that might be a good idea. $1 pledges are probably going to become very unpopular.

Super insightful post! I've been following your blog for ages and I love your content and this was very helpful. This was definitely the push I needed to remove my $1 tier completely and only have a $2 tier, because even though it's a small change it's a double pledge that's still very small. And even though patreon isn't still making the changes, I think it's still a good move!
