Patreon has pro's and con's, and I need to make a decision soon about this platform.

Should I close Patreon after Dec 31, 2021?

Or Should I keep trying to build it, by change the content & tiers for 2022?

Patreon Pro's:

  • I receive a 95% Commission
  • It's great for uploading content
  • It's not a "red flag" for spouses to see a Patreon charge on your credit card
  • It has a paywall for discord, which I love - it helps to filter out lurkers and trolls
  • I love that I can attach content to a post, and when the e-mail notification is sent out, you receive the download link for the content.  LOVE THAT!!
  • I love that when you join, you receive a message from me
  • It's my 3rd largest monthly income from all of my platforms

Patreon Con's

  • I'm having trouble growing it, despite promotion on YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, and Newsletters
  • It's not a great platform for interaction, other than discord
  • It's hard to find content -  the tags don't seem to pull up all of the content that I've tagged, and I can't figure out why that happens.  So for a new person, they may assume I have less content than what is actually here
  • There's no tip feature
  • The site can be sluggish at times
  • Fulfilling tier rewards puts pressure on me - I struggle with that every month - Simplifying their tiers might help
  • I have to be careful about content... but... most of my topics fit, so it's not a major con.

So with that information, what should I do with Patreon for 2022

  • One Session Per Month:  I will choose one session topic per month, but provide various versions.  For example:  Micro Loop version, Short Version, Full Length Version - then the following month, sell the full bundle on DeepSurrender for $40+ (not eligible for coupons)  Only the Micro Loop would go into the Archive.
  • Micro Loops - provide up to 5 micro loops per month.  Each tier would determine how many you would have access to.
  • Mix & Match:  Keep mix & match, but reduce the amount of tiers
  • Other - ??  If you have a great idea, feel free to comment below

I like the one session per month focus. Also, I think you are right that it is important to simplify tier rewards. It is better to have simpler and more achievable tier rewards and be able to deliver them than to have more extravagant rewards and then fail to deliver on them (or be able to deliver them but at a great deal of stress).

I’d be curious of what the age range is for Patreon users compared with the age range of your followers ? For instance, the age range to promote my music is 30-55. That means we do well with FB users and bomb on Twitter. I tend to focus on FB/IG with a little time towards Twitter. I want your happiness so whatever you decide I will go with. 😘

I could imagine some potential patreons might be put off of your patreon, since it's not really used in the usual way they might expect. Other patreon channels use it to allow their fans to support them and reward their patreons for that support. Yours seems a bit more like a subscription service, you send out your monthly content and that content is only available for that month. That's even reflected in the available tiers. A new patreon might visit and see right away that he / she will have to continue to support you, in order to not miss out on anything or rather has already missed out on many months and is then discouraged from pledging. Paying then extra for the archive tier, might not be in their interest or outside the budget of the average patreon. I think working on the tiers and cleaning them up is a great idea. Having more concurrent content that's always available and advertising the tiers as less of a subscription service would sound more appealing for many. I would personally love to see more irregular content in between, like the polls or discussions you've put out last month. The patreon also feels a bit disconnected from your main site, usually other patreon channels have supplementary stuff or behind the scene content for their current main channel content. Maybe some regular discussion threads of past mp3s with a small accompanying sales for that title could be nice. That would be something the tiers would have to be redesign around though

Fascinating! But I would NEVER use FB or IG - I've already tried, and the face recognition outed me to several friends and family EVEN THOUGH I selected all of the privacy option and requested for them not to help me connect with my contact... but they did it anyway. I hate social media sometimes.

I am not familiar enough with LoyalFans to offer an opinion on it. Patreon is okay, simplified tiers make sense, especially if that means less time and effort on your part for roughly the same income.

Finally - some honest feedback. I really appreciate this! I will absolutely consider this as an option. This kind of changes my poll now, because I may likely lean towards your recommendation. I'm actually not familiar with what other creators do with their Patreon, so please feel free to offer any other ideas or suggestions. Thank you so much for being honest

If it works better for you to focus on 1 platform you should follow your instincts. Il follow you to whichever platform makes your life easier.

I think it would help if you put a link to your Patreon on your youtube videos. It would be nice to have access to older content on here and have it not be deleted. I am not a fan of OF. Keep up the great work, you are awesome!

MistressAmethyst2

Thank you. I do have Patreon listed in my video descriptions, but I might change it over to my Allmylinks.com/amethyst page because it's timeless. If I ever do leave Patreon, or they kick the adult creators off, I'd have to go and correct every single video - that would be such a pain. I'm definitely going to change the 2022 tiers so that anything posted to a tier will remain there. I might even consider doing that for the remainder of 2021.

I don't buy into the idea of one file w/ various versions. a) In previous cases when you offered multiple versions I quickly decided for one, used that one, and not never used the others. Translates into: lot of work for you / your assistant, little value add for me. b) In pre-Mix&Match times, I switched between the Full MP3 and the Loop MP3 account based on the files offered. I.e. I "left" at the end of the month, waited for the announcement of the new file, and then rejoined one of the Patreons, both, or none. I am afraid that if you go for the One File w/ Various Versions option, this might lead to more coming-and-leaving-Patrons. c) I think this model will only canibalize sales on deepsurrender.com.

I second this comment with regards to 'leaving a waiting to see if the file will be something that interests me. But I also like the idea of getting multiple versions of a file I enjoy is great as it allows the theme to be enjoyed around other time pressures. The companion loops/mind fucks are good for background 'reinforcememt' so I'd probably be quite happy to pay upfront via deepsurrender for this.

For me, the micro loop only option sounds too much like a 2-3 minute promo you see on YouTube and I wouldn't be that keen. If they supported files I'd already purchased then maybe I'd subscribe for the month to get it but otherwise...

The 'less tiers' option is my preference because I like swapping inductions around to keep things interesting but I feel like I have a tonne of indications and not much to put with them. I do understand this is because I've only been around for a few months and there is still a lot of your catalogue to explore. I'll admit I haven't spent much time on loyal fans so maybe I just need to get over myself and dive in. My main hesitation is the 'give a third party $X to be spent how I want at a later date' instead of what feel like a more direct transaction via Patreon and deepsurrender. Again, this may just be my own personal hang up based on my history so... 🤷‍♂️

MistressAmethyst2

Micro loops have been really popular on LF so far. They're about 5 minutes, and I design them so that you can repeat over and over. They're a great supplemental or if you're short on time.

MistressAmethyst2

It's hard to figure it out because many of the complaints are that my Patreon is too transactional. (complaints made here, but also privately in messages)
