Patreon has this option I haven't switched on here yet but you might have seen offered elsewhere where a patron can pay for a year upfront and there's a discount offered.

Now I'm not really actively seeking out such a thing from any patrons as Exiern runs at quite a loss and has done for a while now. I make up the difference each month (yes, there'll be a post about income, expenditures and the deficit soon - fun!).

So, actually it works out better for me with the payments being split up over 12 months but ultimately I end up with more income in the long run and hence less deficit (yes, I hope to eliminate it one day and dare I say it, even make a profit? - to help make even more Exiern!).

But my point is (and I do have one), does anyone want me to switch the annual subscription option on? I can do so after the month of June (and the end of the Australian financial year) and if possible, I'll offer a 20% discount versus monthly payments if I can. If not that much, it'll be the highest I can offer (I have seen up to a 16% annual discount offered on one Patreon).

Anyway, either let me know in the comments below or via a message about whether you'd like that option. If there's sufficient interest, I'll have it available from July 1st 2021.

On the subject of personal messages, at least some of you may remember I said I was going to individually write to every current patron on Patreon here (no copy and paste messages here!) to ask about their Patreon experience and what, if anything we can do to improve it. That and any other discussions or general feedback anyone would like to have.

Well, I'll be starting that soon (meant to have been now but Australian floods have blocked me from going home on leave just yet). If anyone would like to opt out being contacted, please send me a message, otherwise I'm going to start writing to people as soon as I can, likely starting from the first patron back in 2014 that's still with us (I'm a relative latecomer from the latter half of 2015) and going from there.

Speaking to (at least most of) you soon(er or later)!

Regards,

The Exiern Team

How much will the charge be each time, and how will the tiers be different? Right now I'm at the 5 dollar tier, for instance.

From what I understand from the two annual subscriptions I have, you pay it all upfront for 12 months but at a discount. So for example, one of them was $10/month but by taking the annual option with a 10% discount, I paid ($120 x 90% =) $108 and now I don't have to pay anything when each month rolled around until 12 months later. If we can do 20% off for the year, that's what I'm going to offer (biggest one I've seen is 16%, I'm imagining people can set the percentage based on that).

G'day mate! (So that's why I usually get those infos in the early morning. I've only seen Australia out of a plane's window on the way to somewhere even further from Europe ;-) I'm quite fine with monthly payments. I haven't switched to yearly on any of the others already supporting it.

Hello! I'm perfectly happy with a monthly billing.

Whatever method works best for supporting the site, I'll do that. I am supporting to try to ensure that the site remains viable and the main story (and Neese) continues. Outside of that, I am not overly fussed what else happens. Everything else is a bonus.

As always, it's much appreciated. Of course as you could also imagine, we have to not only think of ways to attract people to all the tiers who weren't there before but also work out ways to keep there at the very least! As you might have noticed, three images at the $10 tier level dropped within 30 minutes with the aim of at least trying to help keep things as they are at their tier if nothing else!

That turn of phrase is associated with our country, yes but it wouldn't be fair dinkum for me to use because I'm not ocker but I think in this case she'll be apples! (Whoever said Australia wasn't an English speaking country ... was probably right if you're referring to *good* English.) As for the posts and their timing, I try to set them to midnight East Coast US time (Scott prefers 12:01am).

I do some of the yearly offerings, but not all. I too, support what I do for Exiern to keep the story going more than for any of the benefits (not that I don't enjoy them by any means), so if it's more lucrative for me to continue monthly installments, that is what I shall do. :D
