Don’t know if you watched this or not but Barbarian is another movie you should watch that is based in Detroit. It’s a horror/suspense movie

Love this reaction, y'all! Dallas is actually the stand-in for Detroit, sadly. In Robocop 2, they went with Houston. Honestly, though, it would have made equal sense to make the story take place in Houston. It's a city with a similar reliance on industrial manufacturing, crime was awful, and the politics were just as shitty. I think the director, Verhoven, not being from America probably made his mind jump first to detroit, because when you think of US manufacturing, detroit is the first thing that would probably come to mind for a foreigner in the 80s (The USA makes cars and the cars are from detroit). Y'all know how for like 30 years people were just making fun of American cars?? Bad gas mileage, bad for the environment, ugly, slow, heavy. I think the design of robocop is a play on that. Like if the guy responsible for designing those 1980 all steel crown victorias but into a robot, it would be robocop.
