Hey everyone!

So I totally didn't realize this until Thursday, but yesterday was Portraits of the Rim's birthday! I feel like I should say something big, but honestly I've never felt I'm super good at eloquence. I guess really I'm just kind of proud and also humbled. I'm proud because this has been a lot of work (as you are all super aware), and it's so cool to see it well-received by the community. I'm new to video game development, and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Oskar and Erin encouraging me, Taranchuk building the framework, and my programmer taking it from there. Doing this mod and getting the support from the community has changed not only my life, but my boyfriend's life (he went into game dev as well with my encouragement this year).

I say all this, and I want to note, too, how much the support from you all has meant along the way. Seriously. A lot of creators say the whole "your support means everything", and honestly, I get it now. Even beyond the financial support (which is HUGE, seriously), I am constantly touched and humbled by the thoughtful comments, critique, and kindness I have felt from everyone here. When I've been feeling burnt out and stressed, that encouragement has been the force that gets me up to keep working on things. It's weird going from complete obscurity to carving out a little space on the Internet, but I'm grateful for it every day. I've loved getting to chat with people about art, Rimworld, avian migratory patterns, anime, and video games here. So yeah, thank you all, and here's to the toddler years of Portraits of the Rim!

Update 1.21

As for the update, my programmer has been POWERING through a bunch of improvements over the last week. In addition to V.O.I.D. and Erin's Corvyia, we'll be getting....

- hidden hairs when people have headgear that covers their whole head (no more hair clipping there, yay!)

- made an option in the mod to hide headgear by default

- added an option to show headgear when drafted (if it's otherwise hidden)

- added a new way to refresh portraits that will help with performance (this is in beta, so if people are experiencing issues, let me know)

- GRADIENT HAIRS ARE NOW COMPATIBLE

What's Next?

Well, Roo's Royalty hairs for starters. My programmer is going to be on lowkey call for the next week to fix any bugs people report. Other features we have on the list is making a default Basic T-Shirt for pawns with missing clothing and down the line maybe even finally getting a way to make eye color match eye color genes.

In terms of broader game development career, I don't know! Maybe it'll just stay to concept art. Hard to say right now, but as always, I'll let you guys know and have a say in the direction this space goes.

Thank you all from the bottom of my paint-covered heart,

TwoPenny
