This marks the first time I've drawn a full picture for a video without using it. My original idea for this fortress was to do a somewhat Tlingit people styled fortress, mostly because it's a very underappreciated culture that is still around today.

After consulting someone of Tlingit heritage though, it was decided that it probably wouldn't be good. Not only would some members of the nation not appreciate it, but I agree that it just isn't a good look to have some white dude dressing dwarves up as part of a living, minority culture.

I have a very hard time navigating the social landscape out there sometimes, but I try my best. It can just get confusing.

Hey also- I know there are going to be strong opinions out there. Lets keep it cool if you're commenting here, aight?

Probably a good call; gorgeous art!

Awesome that you consulted with someone from that culture first. Respect!

Always a great idea! Even when we wish to do something respectfully, it might not be possible to do so despite our best intentions. This is the society we live in. I for one am thankful that I could learn more about the Tlingit culture today.

Ask Phil "Satyros" Brucato (Mage RPG author) how hard it is to navigate the field of including all sorts of culture with respect in a creative work :D Yet, hope you find a way to pull off something in that direction, taking inspiration from interesting cultures of the present or the past here on planet earth 🙏
