to add to the conversation above, i think we need to be very clear that what an author is "showing" in an anime or book etc doesn't always mean they SUPPORT IT., In this case, what tengen did is stupid and he's not thinking right because he's in a rush and his mind is elsewhere and that's why he needed the girls specifically, and he's tunnel visioned on the goal he has in mind and rationalizes it as such. Is it right? hell no, but i think the author is dropping the remark that IN THIS ERA, of both the anime and the era of world of demon slayer itself, there definitely was that level of "men must do X, women must do Y, all else doesnt matter" and some are seen as "tools" rather than a "man" or "woman" or "Child" etc... a lot of the social constructs there are very ingrained in old lore and yet you have these gems of people either starting on the wrong side of things, and realizing what they're doing and breaking out of it, OR it's also the perception of what a viewer or person in the show sees and thinks vs what is happening (not in this tengen case, i'm saying overall, like some background story in s3 for example). And that's intentional i think, because it helps the viewer know where in this world we stand, ESPECIALLY in the entertainment district arc where in that specific city, women were seen as a commodity, even women themselves just played their role in it, whether due to survival or due to power. So I do agree that some actions are silly and random, but i dont think they should be be removed or censored from the show or anime, and i dont think anime should STOP showing these bad habits, as long as they're not showing them as a SUPPOrT of it. Like, we can talk about death and abuse and hatred and etc, in order to tel lthe story behind it, but we as viewers are SUPPOSED to feel offput by it and not condone it and realize that "hey there, that wasnt cool" and THAT is good, as opposed to anime viewers going like "hehe he butt slapped a gurl hehe " like beavis and butthead mentality. My 2 cents.
