I love your slate of shows right now. Watching everything (again for Arcane). Glad you guys are both fully back.

I absolutely love Arcane but I think the most frustrating thing about it for me is that the show is obviously about class struggle and class divide but it really doesn't do much with it imo. Like you talked about, it shows the change in topside prosperity and stuff but it's all background stuff

Isn't "the world" a background element, anyway? When it comes to this type of story, it's more attuned with literary fiction (how the characters influence the world), rather than genre fiction (how the world influences the characters). I believe this, considering the level of development to each character we've been given, and also the realistic portrayals of each character's internal struggles. At the same time, genre fiction cannot be genre fiction as a standalone, the same as a world cannot be something that isn't barren and empty without its inhabitants. I think there's this mixture between literary fiction and genre fiction that genre fiction depends on, or the latter's stories would be forgettable and boring. However, literary fiction can stand on its own, as it doesn't need "the world" as much as any character simply needs "their world". And that's where I believe the whole social divide comes into play, with Arcane. Everyone has their own world they are trying to preserve, while progress would seek to get rid of these separations to bring about "unity".
