We are watching the series on Wakanim (same as Funimation or Crunchyroll)

This episode provided us with some more interesting/horrifying flashbacks, where we finally got to spend a little more time with some of these other characters who are on the opposing side. And then in present time, it seems like Bertholdt finally committed fully to the cause, and he is now ready to end this conflict once and for all...

Zeke is pronounced "Zeek" it's the short form of Ezekiel which is Hebrew

Yes Zeke, but it's the english translation, his original name is actually Sieg as you said it I believe (You can hear it btw even if it's subtle). Some names have an "international" version like this one, or Levi: the original version is actually Rivaille (R is pronounced L in japanese, that's also why Reiner is normally pronounced Lainer). Most of the names in this show are european, Sieg is german, Rivaille is french, etc.

Bertholdt has the skills it was more his personality that was holding him back, now he has fully committed to the fight so there is no hesitation in his movements. Just love that song when Bertholdt inner monologue going on and then we get our mini nuke explosion.

The beauty of Isayama's writing. Even seemingly background characters can become centerpiece and have big moments on screen. And yeah the 'Apple Seed' track is amazing!

Yea exactly. I think the English subtitles for this series could be American subtitles, since Americans like to adapt other cultures to their own rather than keeping the original version... it's a pretty common thing so I won't be surprised! I'm sure if one day you want to watch the series with Danish subtitles all the names will be in their original version.

Thats cool, never knew Zeke was actually Sieg. They should have kept that! Isayama did confirm Levi is meant to be Levi and that Rivaille was actually just an early mistranslation (He got the name from a documentary called Jesus Camp)

Ah interesting I'd never heard of this update. It makes sense since Rivaille is the phonetic japanese translation of the name Levi. Also Levi is a real name unlike Rivaille...

I've said it before but I thought I'd mention it again, but I love the empathy you have towards Reiner and Bertholdt. It's easy to forget that they are both teenagers and (as far as we know right now) have been "undercover" for 5 years alongside our other candidates. They were both so young when this started. Can't wait for future episodes!

But if it's not Rivaille, then they're not Eurofying Levi properly to be honest. In German/Danish the e in Levi is said more like at eh, and not an ee sound. So a bit like [Lehvee]. + I don't think AoT exists with Danish subtitles 🤷🏼

You're right, I'm French and it works the same way Levi is pronounced Lévi (Lehvee as you said) but even though that name is originally Hebrew and supposed to be pronounced that way I guess Isayama has chose this name in its English/American pronunciation. I think this is the only plausible explanation.

Like... it's fine that it is that way, we can manage, but it's the lack of consistency that is throwing me off. You know, when we get the name on screen and we know that (most) names are supposed to be pronounced in a Germanic/Eurocentric way, we just automatically assume, and then we end out in a Zehkeh / Sieg situation like this 😂
