We have both been looking very much forward to this two-parter, and waow! This is certainly something different, and not quite what we expected. So cool and interesting!

EDIT: I went back and included the subtitles again.

I have btw made some changes again to the full length format. Instead of subtitles (I had a lot of trouble getting them to sync up with the episodes), I have now added a timer at the bottom. Please let me know how you like it, and if it makes it easier to sync up with your own copy of the episode. Many of you probably already know this, but just as a quick FIY for those who don't - we are watching the show on Netflix.

Yeah the Lion Turtles gave them the “ability” to bend. The animals taught them the “art” of bending. Wan was given the ability to use fire but did not know how to use it effectively and there were no forms or martial arts connected to it. Not until he learns from the dragons by mimicking their movements etc, then he is more advanced than the other humans. So he could technically say he “learned” from the dragons. Some of the information in ATLA is also similar to real life legends and stories passed down by distant generations. It’s not always exactly as it happened. But you can see where those ideas might have come from. Something like saying we learned from the birds when making planes (although in the Avatar series the connection is more direct).

Fun fact: Serena Williams was the voice of the fire sage that brought Korra to the cave. In ATLA She also voiced a prison guard who brought food to Iroh in Book 3.

Back in ATLA Toph mentions how she learned bending from the badger moles not just as a way of fighting but as an extension of her body, which is what the hunter mentioned about Wan. The other firebenders weren't bending so much as just "throwing fire" and in order to learn how to properly bend fire Wan had to learn if from the dragons

I personally like the subtitles more since I actually just watch it directly without syncing anything, but I get why you did this. I don't mind in the end if this makes it easier for you. I mean I guess you could do both which would be cool! Also I CAN'T wait two days for the next one lol

Bryan

just became a Patreon the other day for these reactions. Glad to be here!

Yup OG waterbender was the moon.

Austin D

idk if you know Steven Yeun, but he voices Wan!

Sonny Mike Olsen

I thought she sounded like that prison guard! Whom we were told was voiced by Serena back when we saw that episode. Awesome they brought her back for another small role 😊

The creators actually had Wan’s story planned for atla season 2, but I guess they couldn’t find a good fit for it in the show then.
