Beyond a few (very) funny moments, this was quite the heavy episode.. Katara really had a lot to deal with in this one. But hey, it continued the trend of "adventures with Zuko and one other person form the Gaang" 😅

Are you guys going to upload all four parts of the finale on the same day or are you going to split it into two? God I’m so excited

Love your avatar videos soso much! And your reaction to zuko in sokka's tent was so funny hahaha

DougRaw

I think you guys got it by the end there but their mom was dead, and they did see her body I believe. When they say "gone" they mean dead, just without saying the words since it's a kid show after all. That's why instead of saying "but when we got there the man and her were gone", they said "but when we got there the man was gone..... and so was she". I know it's subtle but the difference is the slight implication in the second version that they are different types of "gone".

Nice work guys! Though hate to bring it up, but we didn't get your thoughts about what Aang was going to do when he faced the firelord due to his answer to zuko at the end being that violence is not the answer and that it never is. Can't wait for the next one!

There is a theory that the one waterbender they were looking for was Hama, that escaped the firenation's prison at that point)

this season just doesn't let up does it lol? They want you to cry every episode lol. I'll just say you might be crying a different kind of tear next ep :) I can't tell you how much I love the message of not needing to forgive someone to be able to move on. Such a complex theme to teach children. It's great.

this episode speaks to the maturity of the show. to have katara say "i will never forgive him" lesser shows would force forgiveness "because thats the right thing to do".....but is it the most realistic? no. and the show runners balance it perfectly by allowing her to forgive Zuko.

It's exactly why I love this show, it doesn't feel forced. Such a good point to highlight

I agree, your post episode reactions and analysis are part of the fun so splitting it would be so appreciated

Such a fun a reaction. I love the part about strength of character/forgiveness is having the strength to see people for who they are. It's a really powerful message. One of the more funny reaction loved it

Aang's quote that revenge is a two headed viper, while your enemy goes down, you're being poisoned yourself, is shown in it's literal sense with how Katara was behaving. To get up the anger to do the act of revenge she said that terrible thing to Sokka and even bloodbended. It was driving her to be a person she didn't want to be. She's a good sister and a good person. It is very much touching on the theme of the show, that you determine your own destiny. You shouldn't let others tell you who to be but choose for yourself. Which is an interesting theme in a 'chosen one' story. It's one of many reasons this show is a masterpiece. How well they draw on these two themes.

My favorite little detail in this one is the 4 or 5 different times they show the big huge full moon in the background before Katara blood bends.

Toph could definitely feel what sokka was doing to suki that night...

Ruma Risto

Katara and Sokka's mom is confirmed dead.

I also heard a theory that they were not going to take any prisoners because of what Hama did.

YES! Thank you for the nod of approval at the end when Katara says "I don't know if it's because I'm too weak to do it, or if it's because I'm strong enough not to". The feeeeels. I think it's an underrated Avatar quote.

i love how this show balances “good and evil”, like just because you are “good” doesn’t mean you are perfect. katara Totally lets her emotions get the best of her. and zuko is “good” now, but hes being an incredibly toxic friend. its like, ZUKO when your friend is angry enough to revenge kill someone, you’re not supposed to say “i’ll help you” lol

Joe Tucker

Yeah, you have to remember that this aired on Nickelodeon. They very, very rarely get away with language referring to explicitly killing people in ATLA and generally refer to deaths as getting "taken out."

I think "and when we got back, she was gone" meant "she was gone" like dead, not literally gone like disappeared. Also, season 3 piling on the emotions makes me think of Kylo Ren screaming "MORE...MOOOORE!!! MOOOOORE!!!!" haha

To not let your anger/hatred of someone drive you to commit acts that you normally wouldn't commit is 100% strength. There's a saying in my culture "The strongest among us is not the one who can hit the hardest but the one who can keep his/her emotions(anger/hatred) under control." I'm pretty sure every culture around the world has something similar to that but I just wanted to share it. It's such a wonderful lesson that can be appreciated by all people, young and old.

After watching an episode like this one it can be hard to imagine that this series was ever intended for adolescents. It's not shy about presenting themes that can be tough to grapple with, even for adults. It's one of the things that gives it lasting appeal. Many of it's lessons are enduring ones.

The reason why Katara misses her Mother more then Sokka does was explained in this Season. Sokka told Toph that whenever he tries to picture his Mom, what he sees is Katara. Because she was like a mother to him in a way. She was the little sister but she took care of him while he was "out playing Soldier" as she put it. Which is why she is more mature than him. She had to grow up faster than him because he had her to rely on, a luxury she didn't have. But that is also why losing their mother was harder on her than on him. He replaced his mother with her, while she was without a mother, forced to take over the role of one.
