IMPORTANT: For some reason the audio from our recording got damaged, and I had to spend a long time trying to fix it. There were these scratchy sounds all through the video, and you can probably still hear traces of them here and there. This means the early reaction is going to get delayed once again.. So sorry friends. I hope this issue won't crop up again.

Even though the title prepared us for Iwo Jima, this episode was actually all about John Basilone. His work for the military, training new marines, falling in love and how he ultimately met his end, fighting side by side with his brothers once again..

The flag raising is a lot like how we got our National Anthem out of the battle of Fort Mckinley during the war of 1812, in which Francis Scott Key was a prisoner on a british ship and all he could see during the night was the rockets glares and smoke, he thought for sure the fort was gonna fall, but in the morning when the smoke cleared the flag was still there, so raising our flag on Japanesse soil was meant not just as a moral boost for the men and the states, but a signal to japan saying we are here and come hell or high water we will be victorious

Also do yall plan on watching the Mini Series Generation Kill about the war in Iraq? And another really good movie to watch is We were Soldiers which is during Vietnam

I think it’s important to show stories where the hero doesn’t make it in the end. The classic story of the young hero going to war and returning home a champion is basically the foundation of every myth in history, and countless generations of young men have been enticed into going to war, convinced that they’re the hero of the story. But the reality is the bullets and shrapnel flying through the air don’t discriminate between protagonist and side character, and you can be as badass as John Basilone was and just be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and instead of the happy ending with the big family of children, you leave behind a widow. I think more movies and shows about should include this reality. Btw, 1000% would love reactions to flags of our fathers and letters from Iwo Jima, and I hope you consider Generation Kill as well!

Amen, I think they should also add the Netflix show Medal of Honor to watch as well, even though it doesnt have the biggest budget it does it job to show those stories

Mikey

yes you and your dad should do both flags of our fathers and letters from iwo jima, The pacific does a good job of the beach assault but those two movies do a good job of showing the entire battle from both sides
