We loved, loved, loved this episode!! Even though it was very tough and sad at times, we really enjoyed getting so much backstory on Zuko and his family. This is getting very deep and emotional!

The BEST redemptions are never linear. Zuko is the perfect embodiment of an excellent character.

I think you guys may have set a record for the most times the word "cunt" has ever been used when reacting to a Nickolodeon show lol

glad the discussion was so long :)

A whole episode dedicated to Zuko. I think it's one if not the only episode in the series where Aang doesn't appear. Just have to love a show that no matter which character from the show you follow it will be good.

This episode was definitely one of the episodes when I watched it where I thought dang this show is something special. It also helped that this episode had homages to Clint Eastwood’s man with no name westerns and the western Shane.

Honestly this episode is one of the best in the series and that's saying a lot. Honestly Emmy worthy stuff

You guys touched on it but just to clarify the on the exchange between Ozai and Azulon. The latter was angered that Ozai would even suggest revoking Iroh’s place that he needed to be punished. According to Azula, Ozai would need to sacrifice Zuko as that punishment. Azulon never intended that Ozai could get the throne by killing his own son. There’s obviously some pieces missing because we cut to then Azulon all of a sudden passing away while Ozai is now the next Fire Lord according to his wishes.

would you guys consider watching and reacting to the korean series Kingdom on netflix? 👀 it's pretty good especially if you don't hate watching shows with zombies.

I legit thought for a split second that Kat was gonna roast Sonny for using the word "cunt" lolol I really enjoy and look forward to these reactions guys! Great stuff!

I missed Aang and the gang in this episode. But Zuko’s history with his family is very interesting.

Took me a few rewatch to realise that when Zuko’s mom left, she told him “no matter how different things may be, never forget who you are”. Zuko immediately thought she meant not to forget his birthright, but his mum just want him to continue be himself, someone who keeps fighting even though it’s hard.

I loved this episode! I just subscribed to your Patreon because I love you reactions and insight on this show. It only gets better !

A young sister with clear sociopathic tendencies. The loss of one's mother due to the direct actions of one's father. And this was a show aimed at a younger audience a decade and a half ago. Nickelodeon really took a leap of faith on this series.

This isnt a spoiler or anything but when i watched this episode i assumed the "his dying wish" declaration was what ozai told people after getting his dad out of the way. I dont think azulon wouldve changed his mind at all about betraying iroh. And since no one but ozai (and technically azula) heard azulon scold ozai and defend iroh, ozai just got rid of him and then lied by saying him becoming firelord is what his dad "wanted".

Kat: "I like cunts better then i like her" cracked me up XD

great reaction!

Azulon dies "in his sleep" and then Ozai tells everyone his last wish was for Ozai to be made firelord. I wonder how Iroh reacted when he got home, was he enraged that Ozai took his throne, or was he so depressed that he just accepted it? That's what I've always wondered.

New patreon here, I love your reactions to this show!! This show brings you on an emotional ROLLERCOASTER. Every time Kat gets teary-eyed (and sometimes Sonny too!) I get hit with the feels. This episode was so amazing and filled with so much backstory, this show honestly isn't just a "kids show", there's so much anyone can learn from this series, even as adults, about life, love, honesty, honor, death, sadness, etc. Looking forward to watching more episodes of your reactions!

Robert

i personally would imagine that the loss of his son made him not really want to rule anyway. If he would have become the fire lord he might even have stopped the war. I don't think that he was outraged, i think he was pretty much a broken man in that time. Which is why he started to care so much for Zuko. He filled a hole in Irohs heart.

Robert

that is what i always assumed happened. As angry as Azulon got over just mentioning taking the Throne of Iroh, i don't believe that he would have ever changed his mind. Ozai simply lied about it because he knew nobody would dare to oppose him anyway. And Iroh wasn't there at the time.

I heard they say what happened with Zuko's mum in the comics? The mystery surrounding her was the MOST annoying loose end in regards to this show. I think maybe SHE killed Azulan? Perhaps there was some grain of truth to what Azula said...maybe he wasn't going to kill Zuko, but punish Ozai through him somehow.
