The swamp is calling! This was yet another very different yet informative episode, and we are already loving this season.

Sorry about the delay by the way.
Enjoy! 💜

I could be wrong but I always saw the waterbenders in the swamp as a representation of Creole/Cajun people in Louisiana.

That was immediately obvious to me as well lol However, I later learned that the Swamp people are actually more of a hybrid group as far as real world analogies go. The accents and stereotypical behavior are definitely in that “southern US” vein for sure lol and I may be wrong, but I’ve read that their names (Due and Tho) are actually Vietnamese and the way they dress is vaguely Amazonian hunter-gather. I always loved this aspect of the show. The way the Fire Nation is analogous to Imperial Japan, Earth Kingdom to Medieval China, Air nomads to Tibetan Monks, and the Northern and Southern Water tribes to Inuit peoples is a breath of fresh air in a genre (fantasy) dominated by European history and folklore. At least the fantasy I’ve been exposed to lol

Swamp benders are inspired by the various groups of native Americans from Florida such as the Timucua tribe.

The Swamp is one of my top favorite episodes! I love what Huu had to say about how everything is connected and how there's definitely something mystical about the swamp.

Like some others have said. The swamp people are inspired by southern US. Particularly the bayou/Louisiana area.
