Yeah now you guys want me to cry. This series had me crying. Not so much the show but the accounts from all the old Airborne vets. Its a sad one. Currahee!

Me and an old army buddy started watching this show back in 2006, and we watch it every year in January, this year we massed 12 people, last year we were 10... This goes to show, just how much this show means to some people (and to me) it is just SO GOOD, sad, beautiful, heart wrenching, gut stabbing... and I only did 10 months of basic military education (Slagelse) and the bond that forms in soldiers, when you are in the shit is immense, and this show proves that fact. I always thought that the reason capt. Sobel was given jump training instead of leading E.Z, was because the army knew, he was a shitty commander. he was a brilliant instructor, but crap in the field. He used capital punishment (Which is a war crime according to the Geneva convention), he did not know how to read a map, he could not follow simple directions (this is optimal positioning for an ambush, wait here), none of his Senior officers trusted him, and neither did his X.O. So they shipped him of to a place where he could only do what he did best. I always thought of it as a punishment rather than indulgence. It's interesting to see another viewpoint.. I can't wait for you to continue this masterful show...

So glad we’re finally watching BoB! I’m proud of my connection to Easy Company, as tenuous as it may be! When it comes to Sobel, there has always been a distinction between good peace time officers and good war time officers, and Sobel was definitely removed intentionally. I’ll be sure to remind you of the anecdote I know about the smell of pine trees! Good luck getting through this Kat!

Ah fuck here we go. First episode starts off light at least. I have lived in Normandie on the coast where Omaha beaches are, you can't walk 100 meters without crossing a memorial. They are everywhere. A lot of "international" museums too, where I was there were a lot of stuff from Canada. I also went to the US cemetery which if I understand correctly is actually american land within Normandie. I was in middle school at the time so not very interested/invested in it but still it was a very heavy experience to walk through it

Oh my god, Oh my god, Oh my god! i want to say something profound and memorable, but all i can think of is Oh my god!!

Well the slow easy one is over. So how many actors did you recognize? I heard you mention Michael Fassbender, Simon Peg and David Schwimmer anybody else? It wasn't until years later that I found out the actor Damian Lewis who portrays Richard Winters was British surprised the heck out of me. In fact a lot of the cast is British. There is a cameo in a later episode that when I saw the actor I was like WTF??? So you know what Currhaee is now but I think the word Kat was looking for early on was Geronimo, that young American males from the 50s would yell when doing some crazy shit, like jumping out of an airplane. Now we just yell SHIIIIIIT!!! She was also correct in that it is the name of an Apache (Native American) tribal leader or chief who drove the US Army crazy for awhile. I want you to remember the name Mike Ranney he was the sergeant that got demoted to corporal but don't worry I'll remind when the time is appropriate. Oh the actor portraying Colonel Sink is Dale Dye a former US Marine who served in Vietnam. He put the actors in Easy Company through a mini boot where they had to train and live like these soldiers would have. He wanted them to have a very real understanding of what these men went through. Must have worked they do a phenomenal job and I hear it also brought them closer together and a lot the cast still get together from time to time. Looking forward to the next episode!!

Winters is such an amazing leader.

I think this is the greatest war series ever made. Though I would rank The Pacific right up there too. I hope you watch the Pacific afterwards as well!

I would say The Pacific is a little better because BoB tried to keep the pace of a TV Series even though very realistc. In TP they try to be even more imersive and gritty and tried to forge a bigger bond with the characters. But actually its a taste thing and you cant argue about taste.

So glad you chose to watch this series. It really is one of, if not the best mini-series ever made. There are some tough scenes to watch, but it is well worth it. By the end, you'll really appreciate the time and effort everyone put into this considering it's almost 20 years old. Also, the directors change from episode to episode (Tom Hanks directed Episode 4), so each one feels like it's own movie.

I liked The Pacific, but def liked Band of Brothers more.

The Pacific is fantastic but hard disagree on it being better than Band of Brothers
