Holiday break is coming up at work, so I thought it would be fun to a short story/community event. I'll post a setup, you pick what happens next, and I'll do an illustration. Then we repeat!

Our next part:

Interviewing the remaining people around town, the reporter repeatedly hears that people had glimpses of the aliens around pools, the fishin' creek, and the local watering hole.

That night, the reporter heads out and sure enough finds a few of the alien women around the water. They flit about, soaking in the water but giving off a strange glow. They seem to communicate with each other, but give off no noise louder than a subtle vibration and hum.

The reporter is engrossed, taking all the notes he can to relay this back to his paper back in the city. He's so preoccupied that he doesn't hear the rustling of the grass behind him...

I went with elements from Ross Phillips and Doggod's suggestions. I really liked the pool idea because it gives some mystery to the aliens. Are they drinking, poisoning the town, or did they just come to Earth for summer vacation? And now we have farmers sneaking about too? Friends or foes...

Post what follows next in the comments and I'll pick the one that's the most fun.

If you don't want to come up with a follow-up of your own, just leave a comment on somebody else's and I'll give weight to the ones that have make more comments.

Deadline 2 is the 22nd, Tuesday night!

DarkZamiel

Alien taps him on the shoulder trying to find out what the reporter is doing. This makes the reporter jump and trip into the water. The aliens start to take care of him making sure he has not hurt himself. The reporter finds out the alien definition of ok is quite different from his as he begins to turn into one of them.

Ross Phillips

Since we are apparently teamed up now, I'm gonna lean into Doggod's angle. A farmer drags the reporter back into the bushes and warns him women don't appreciate being spied on. As the farmer talks, the reporter catches himself humming an other-worldy tune.

Melkorios

Turns out the aliens use standing water as end points for some manner of teleportation system, and the reporter is brought into the pool, being brought back to whatever mothership brought the aliens here, and thus begins to experience firsthand what happened to the missing people, undergoing his own induction into the species.
