AI Filmschool Week 03 - Story (Patreon)

This week we talk about different techniques to finalize the character motivations and structure of your story. I'll also look at your pitches and give you feedback on how I would apply these techniques to your stories. I really hope it helps you guys out! 

Week 03 - Storytelling

October 19th, 2023 - October 26th, 2023

Refine your story using the different techniques from the presentation (III act structure, story circle, want vs. need).

• Ask yourself: Who is your main character? Why do we identify with her? What is the central conflict / theme of your story? How is the conflict resolved? How do you manage to increase the tension over the duration of your story?
• Plot your story on Dan Harmon's story circle and write a brief explanation of what happens at each step. (You can use the list on the next page.)

Add your Story Circle explanation to your .pdf from Week 02, post it on the discord (week 03) and give feedback to the other participants.

Week 03 - Assignment

Plot your story on Dan Harmon's story circle and fill out these steps with your own story.

1. You: A character in their zone of comfort, ESTABLISH A PROTAGONIST
2. Need: wants something, SOMETHING AIN'T QUITE RIGHT
3. Go!:  so they enter an unfamiliar situation, CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
4. Struggle: to which they have to adapt, THE ROAD OF TRIALS
5. Find: in order to get what they want, MEETING WITH THE GODDESS
6. Suffer / Take: yet they have to make a sacrifice, MEET YOUR MAKER
7. Return: before they return to their familiar situation, BRINGING IT HOME
8. Change: having changed fundamentally, MASTER OF BOTH WORLDS
