Hey Folks! We've gotten a ton of feedback about the watchalong format and we've been internally struggling with this for a while now. Recently some streaming services we use have implemented changes that make the watchalong format more difficult to participate in, so we're debating swapping back to our old format. We stand by the reasons we changed to watchalong format, but we also want to make the watching experience as easy and enjoyable as possible for ya'll. So we're at a crossroads! We don't want to be flip flopping back and forth, so this is what we will do going forward. Which format would you like to see on the Patreon?

We can't thank you all enough for your support so it's really important that we include you in this decision! πŸ™‡β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ

I like the previous format you guys had I also completely understand the reasons for the change though All in all, I love the content and will watch it no matter what but my preference is definitely the older format

I think the weakness of the watchalong format is that you can't pause to give your thoughts. This is an issue more in some anime than others - for example in Frieren it's very easy to miss an important moment by talking over it. In other shows it helps to fill the dead air many shows seem to have for some reason, so for me what format would be best depends a lot on the show.

I understand the reasons completely, but I've also been having loads of problems with watchalongs, not just with you, but in general, buffering on videos that never buffered before or shouldn't due to my setup and ISP. If you manage to do in video stuff I would love it, but it is your channel and choice. I'm here for your reactions, but having no reference or constant adjusting and fiddling with the video takes me out of the experience.

Definitely whatever is easier for you guys, I do prefer the old way, watchalongs are hard to do when I only have my phone when traveling

David Hayward

While I thought watchalong would be annoying, it's usually fine for me - the only exception being when something is on Amazon they put ads in the shows which messes up the sync. I agree with pun pundit that it means you can't pause the show to talk about things which might make you miss stuff, but I wouldn't want you to stress or worry about the channel.

I've kind of made it a habit that when I do a watch-along, I just rip the videos from the streaming websites so everything runs locally. Since that can be an involved processed I don't think I will be able to contribute anything useful. So long as you are talking about full length, unedited, I guess it does not matter much to me weather you continue with watch along formats or remove the filters entirely. Perhaps the only thing I can add is that subtitles would be challenging to read on such a tiny sub-window within your videos on some devices.

I prefer the previous format, watch a long formats get annoying when the site I use or your reaction itself decides to randomly buffer and I have to realign it

I don't mind watching along, but I can't watch them on my phone, which is how I primarily consume your content My phone won't let me play two audio sources at once

Same as some people here, I don't really like the watchalong format but for obvious reasons it's still the best. Since the video on patreon always buffer when streaming (even though I have fiber internet and I have no problems with youtube or twitch), I made a script to download your videos and I play them locally.

Can I get some clarification on what the old way was?

BatCatChannel

No filters! So for instance you would be able to watch our reactions on a cellphone without needing both videos open πŸ‘

BatCatChannel

Nope! Youtube early access ain't going anywhere- would just hypothetically be swapping from watchalong where you need your own copy, to full length unedited reactions, so you won't need your own copy πŸ™‡β€β™‚οΈ Like in some of our older reactions on the Patreon

Since I can only give one vote, it's the second one in my case! However, I also have a strong opinion on "I Just Love You(r Reactions) Guys"

Joel Sasmad

Definitely option 3

Bay Tea

I'm fine with anything in that case, though, I hope y'all don't get smacked around by DMCA. I also kinda like putting y'all in a little corner and watching the show. Guess I can still do that if I mute my stream audio?

Rheinhard

I don't mind the watchalong: I'm a very old oldtaku, and am well versed in the ways of obtaining "friendly" copies of things, regardless! :-)

Xavier J

Overall I much prefer the no filters, since the watchalong comes with extra steps and a lot of buffering can happen so I have to reallign it.

Marith Lizard

Of course it's easier for us to not need the watchalong step, but protecting yourselves and the channel has to come first, and as long as the media is reasonably easy to get for ourselves I'm fine with it. ( I do see the point people are making about not being able to pause and discuss though. It's easy to get caught up in the commentary and miss what's happening on screen.) The most important thing for me is that the reactions be full-length and include the sound. Would a filter over the visuals be a workable alternative to watchalongs? I've seen different reactors do things like cropping the view, or using a translucent overlay.
