Not a spoiler (but maybe a spoiler?) for the director's cut of THIS film: One of the cut scenes in the beginning Burke is telling Ripley what happened to her daughter during the 57 years she's been missing. That's right, Ripley is a mother, and her grieving that loss is where Newt, who is also grieving the loss of her family and both of them traumatized by their encounter with the aliens, form a new family with just the two of them. (And I suppose Hicks and Bishop are like a possible dad and uncle for the surrogate family? idk.) Anyway, where Alien Isolation comes in is that you play as Amanda Ripley (Elanor Ripley's daughter) during a point in time somewhere in those 57 years that she is missing.

It's a reoccurring theme in several of James Cameron's works, but the "heroism of motherhood" for a simple and blunt way to put it, is not something you see a lot in major blockbuster films. However, Cameron manages to interweave it into the core of many of his popular films. Granted, I don't think the cut down theatrical version of Aliens has as much emphasis on this than the longer one, but it is certainly something he wants to show off in many of his stories.

I highly recommend you playing Aliens: Fireteam Elite its a coop horde shooter. Its mission based campaign it has difficulty levels for more of a challenge. Very immersive and lots of fun ^^

Ohhhh wow, that's awesome! Didn't realize that about his films! And thanks for answering our burning question! 😆

Certainly. In total, the runtime difference between the two versions is over 16 minutes with almost all of it having solely to do with "family."
