"I feel like every time things look dire 'new mech'" yeah this is my biggest problem with R2 lol (it happens once for both sides in these two episodes alone!) I have found that rewatching it, knowing it's coming, makes you appreciate that there is a lot more going on than just the mechs, but on first viewing with it acting as the tension release every time you really feel it.

Truly we know who appreciates mechs more than me. - They have been hyping up Orange for a few episodes now. What do you think he will do when he finally does something?! True, it does feel like in season 2 that the introduction of new mechs is gimmicky. But at least in this instance it was well timed propaganda that won the battle. Exposing the corruption of the Eunuchs and showing imagery of an empress victimized by their treachery.

A follow-up on the end of episode conversation. Political marriages are an institution of dynastic rule. Being a princess is an office of privilege and holding that office has responsibilities, and one of those is the diplomatic function of sewing peace and stability through family marriages. Don't want to get married for political purposes? Then you don't the benefits of being a princess either. Perhaps an example of this in recent times is with Prince Harry David, the Duke of Sussex, marrying an American, left the Royal family. It is perhaps an 'outdated' practice that doesn't gel with modern ways of life inside democratic nations, but there is logic to it, in having a stability and predictability in the succession of power and as a means to prevent war. But then again, that is real life history, and not anime storytelling. Personally, I think the "love conquers all" message is rather shoehorned in and out of place in the context of the Chinese uprising in the show, but I think the writers wanted to drop the storyline and get Lelouch back to Japan, so focusing on the "love" and "passions of the heart" theme works in connecting us back to what is going to happen in the next couple episodes. :)
