This whole show is a crazy rolercoster ride, enjoy!

I love hearing you guys talk about the show! The thoughts and observations on names being Japanese and Britannian was a great catch. Another fun design detail you might notice is how Japanese designs, characters, outfits, etc. tend to have grounded earthy colors, lots of browns and dark reds; whereas Brits have a ton of bright colors, like purples, pinks, and yellows/golds.

This show moves super fast so it's easy to miss stuff, I only noticed some details on my 3rd rewatch. Some interesting things to note that you guys missed. 1. Her name is pronounced Kallen like Ka-len 2. They actually hinted at who Lelouch was multiple times in the first episode . When he's first introduced he says his name is Lelouch Lamperouge, but at the end when he's ordering the soldiers to kill themselves he says "Lelouch vi Britannia commands you". He also said the line "how should a Britannian who hates his own country live his life." 3. In the first episode the engineering people actually said that they came to give the lancelot to a famous Britannian soldier named Jeremiah, but he brushed them off and went off to "have some fun" killing the Elevens, which is why they settled for Suzaku in this episode.

AAAAH so soon after the first one? All aboard! Regarding names. Kallen/Karen, being Japanese is pronounced as a little bit of an in between of the two, but is spelled "Kallen". Lelouch mentioned his mother's name is Marianne at the very end of the episode, which both names are French in origin. I don't know the level of direct inspiration of real history versus alternate-world history they blend in this show precisely, but A good deal of the British Monarchy in our real world originate from France. Maybe the current line has stronger ties to German descendants, but there were many centuries of Norman rule. Also given some the philosophical rabbit holes they go down later, I think there were several other reasons why they gave Lelouch's immediate family French names. (I think Clovis is a French name too, if I am not mistaken...?)
