In the episode that Mordred guy was talking about how when worlds collide things can get transferred between them. He said that so many years ago their world collided with another and magic came into their world, and there have been instances of things passing out of their world to others. I'm just guessing but I think Right around the time Cid died on Earth, Earth's universe collided with this new world's universe and Earth got magic out of it, while Cid's soul crossed over and was reborn as Cid/shadow. Looks like the introduction of magic wrecked the world, or people wrecked the world going power crazy with magic.

In the novel things happend a bit differently. For one Beta was transported together with cid to our world. Also those two cyborgs didnt make any apperance in the novel. I'd imagine the movie will remake that whole starting sequence

i think it was actually the remains of the Black Rose that Shadow got caught in. but perhaps immense power from outer space made it converge as you said. But you might be right too. but of the countless worlds, opening a gateway back to Earth? Perhaps it had to do with Shadow’s psyche or inner thoughts or desires? i wouldnt be sure if its random.

and eminence in shadow became one of my top 5 isekai animes of all time. partly cuz this is the first isekai anime (that i know of) that actually mentions AND shows outer space.

As stated before, we'll be receiving info on the movie some time at the end of May. It was actually just announced not long ago so you guys have great timing. ^^ It was a wonderful journey! If I may real quick offer a suggestion though, as I've heard that you'll be reacting to the remaining Kage Jitsus, the text on the screen is really, really small. I believe at one point in the show they said the Cult had ultra advanced tech, hence flashbacks with stuff like tablets or guys in labs.

In terms of reading the manga, you COULD just read it up to the point the show is at. It's not a 1 for 1 with the show (just like the manga isn't exactly the same as the LN), so it's not just reading threw the same exact stuff that was in the show. But the manga does go into more detail at times than the show, and situations are often easier to understand. It's also a bit more on the comedic side at times than the show is. Actually, I don't think the official translation of the manga is even up to the point the show is (it's a slow release), although the online fan translation definitely is well past it.

Probably my favorite episode especially since they did a call back to all the characters we met to the scenes of season 1. Now Cid can be the eminence in his old universe

When Cid was transported to the New World in ep 1, it's likely that the convergence between the 2 worlds also allowed Magic to Come to Cid original World from the world Cid went to. That's why Nishino have Magic now. That's how i understand it.

Since Modred told that there was no Magic in there World originaly. It came from a convergence with another world. Same thing happened with Cid World

Sadly, this episode is the very last Eminence in Shadow anime I will ever watch. I can put up with a good deal of cut stuff and changes, but the studio massacred the story on a morally, spiritually, and intimately obscene level. From the moment Shadow goes to space, damn near nothing is as what happens in the novels. Sure, he goes in a new portal(which is actually the very last vestige of the Black Rose), saying "I give myself to the ebony vortex and vanish into the world of darkness.", but....so does Beta, crying her eyes out(I'mgoing, too!). This is the end of chapter 3, volume 4. Next, comes episode 1 of the anime as a side chapter. Then, Cid opens his eyes to see he is standing on cracked asphalt. Cid thinks that jumping into that portal was "a pretty baller way to make an exit." He notices it's Japan, even the same town he lived in. Beta is amazed that he can read this "new, strange writing." He rubs it in her face that he knows just where they are. They break in to a house to change clothes. Beta tries on kinky stuff(lingerie, bunny suit, etc.), and Cid tells her "Mmmm. How about not?" They go to a hospital, find a LOT of human body parts all over, end up fighting horrific magic beasts. They easily kill the beasts and notice that someone is coming. Cid and Beta play "I'm unconscious." In walks Akane Nishino and her crew. They see some kids(Cud and Beta) alive, but knocked out, so they carry them to their base. THAT is how the last of The Eminence in Shadow episode should have gone. No Shadow. No past kidnappers. The season ended stupidly af. The movie is gonna be horrendous trash, probably 80% gags and fan service. Plus, without Beta there with him, the original story is impossible to continue past that arc. It just breaks my heart.
