Chapter 6: The Answer Was There From the Beginning

After placing the still unconscious Gladiia on the bed and closing the door, Steven sat by the bed, holding his forehead.

She was sleeping soundly, but Steven wasn't as at ease as she was.

The top priority was to figure out which game or anime this world came from. Only then would Steven have a better understanding of what he was dealing with.

There must be other methods of obtaining the so-called "World Acknowledgment Points" besides fighting monsters and pleasing girls.

On the way to the village with Gladiia, Steven had already tested most of the mod activations, and they required hundreds of thousands, even millions of World Acknowledgement Points, to enable. Even the most basic daily utility mods were beyond his current point total.

He had felt accomplished after dealing with the sea monster and gaining nearly two hundred points, but now he couldn't help but laugh at himself.

With this kind of behavior, it was highly unlikely he could even exchange for a few practical mod permissions, let alone become a star killer in this world.

If he relied on the single head-patting incident, it was even more of a pipe dream. A few girls would probably pat him bald sooner or later.

Glancing up at the sky, Steven silently ridiculed the world's will.

If this world's will had tangible deities, it was quite cowardly.

He needed to find a place to earn some World Acknowledgment Points.

Although he had combat experience developed over many years in the MC world and a terrifying physical strength, who would complain about having more advantages?

Besides, he was concerned about a crucial issue.

He had noticed that these World Acknowledgment Points would gradually deplete over time. Even though it was only one point per hour, it meant that even if he didn't want to use mods and just wanted to fool around in this world with his original abilities, it would become impossible.

‘Aren't they forcing me into action?’

Furrowing his brow and sighing, even though he had enough points for now, Steven couldn't help but feel a bit worried. If these points went to zero, he wouldn't really be kicked out of this world, would he?

"So, where is this place? Terra, Iberia... It sounds so familiar, but I just can't remember. If only I had a mod to search it up."

Rubbing his temples, Steven suddenly thought of something and snapped his fingers.

He didn't have a mod like google search, but there might be other clues hidden in the most basic settings of his ability.

Opening the system interface in his mind, Steven accessed the achievement page.

Ignoring the page that had been completed years ago in the original version, he quickly found the new page.

"Arknights" World Achievement List:

  • [Entering Terra] Achievement Completed √ World Acknowledgment Points +10,000.
  • [Participating in the Plot: Dark Ages] Locked. (Basic Completion Reward: 100,000 World Acknowledgment Points)
  • [Participating in the Plot: Twins] Locked. (Basic Completion Reward: 100,000 World Acknowledgment Points)
  • [Participating in the Plot: Second Breath] Locked. (Basic Completion Reward: 200,000 World Acknowledgment Points)
  • ...

Let's put aside the long list of locked achievements for now. Steven stared at the four big words "Arknights" as the title, frozen in place.

The answer had been right here all along, and he had wasted so much brainpower thinking about other things. If only he had switched "Terra" for "this land," he would have realized it immediately!

Speaking of the game "Arknights," he had heard of it, but at that time, it was infamous for its difficulty, and he hadn't been tempted to try it. After all, he was more of a PC gamer, not into mobile games.

After crossing over, he had even less reason to want to escape from it if he could play mobile games in Minecraft.

"Let me think. Now that I know the background of this world, earning World Acknowledgment Points will be much simpler."

Rubbing his chin, Steven looked at the achievement names that seemed utterly juvenile. Even though he hadn't played the game, he was well aware of its popularity, and, as a dedicated otaku, he had some knowledge of its content.

For example, he knew that these over-the-top names came from the main plot of the game, the story experienced by the main character.

However, given the current state where all of them were locked, it meant that he was in the prelude to the plot, and the main story hadn't started yet.

Steven had no knowledge of the main plot, but what he cared about were the World Acknowledgment Points listed behind these achievements.

No wonder the points for killing monsters were so few; it turned out that the big chunk was here.

Upon reflection, Steven found this reasonable. If this world was based on a game's worldview, participating in the main plot would be the most direct way to gain the world's recognition.

"So, that means she is probably a character from the main plot or some event side story, right?"

Glancing down at the girl who had already grasped his hand as if using it as a pillow, revealing a blissful sleeping posture, Steven reached a conclusion.

The system prompted contact with a plot character when he patted her head, which meant she was either an important character in some plot or simply a gacha character from the game.

Steven remembered very clearly that the game was a gacha mobile game, although it was renowned for having a relatively fair reputation among gacha games. Still, it wasn't completely free of the gacha element.

This was also why he hadn't played it at the time. After all, he was not only poor but also a pure-blooded African chieftain in a sense. A game with a 100-pull guarantee would never end after just 99 pulls.

Setting aside these sorrowful memories, Steven was now clear about what he needed to do next.

The method to earn a substantial amount of World Acknowledgment Points had been fully listed by the achievement system. Now, he just had to find a way to participate.

The achievements merely mentioned participation, and Steven was more than happy to be an observer.

"So, next, I need to find the group that contains the main character before the main plot starts. If I recall it right….. It’s Rhodes Island, right?”
