Wally and Jesse are also speedsters in the comics. We fans were always wondering how and when they would get their speed in the show. In the comics, Barry disappeared in 1985 and Wally took over the mantle of THE Flash until Barry returned to the comics in 2008. So, there's a whole generation of comic book fans who grew up with Wally as their The Flash.
