POSSIBLE SPOILERS!

So IF this true and not another hoax it looks like the next expansion pack is called Eco Lifestyle. I'm SO excited I already want to start planning  mods for it! I know we brainstormed some of this when Off-the-Grid came out but I'd like to start another discussion about it and see where it takes us.

Of course, we won't know any details about it until tomorrow but if you want to throw some ideas out there I can start some basic planning. I'm sure a lot of what we talked about previously (solar panels, composting, etc) will be included but I can also create some cool add-ons once I have more info about the pack.

I'm going to list some ideas we talked about and some other ideas that have been rattling around in my head:

  • Composting - for the garden and a composting toilet
  • Water Mill - for grain and cotton milling
  • Preserves - jams, sauces, dehydrated stuff
  • Water Sources - water well, pond, water pump
  • Animal Breeding - IF we get animals :)
  • Animal Meat - also if we get animals; it'd be cool to have chicken breast and ground beef ingredients
  • Cheese Crafting - I was going to do a version of this using the cowplant but if we get cows then maybe it will extend to that too!
  • Candle Crafting - this is WIP and I'm not going to say anything more because every time I do I jinx it and something goes wrong lol
  • Scavenging - similar to the foraging mod but used to find objects like cans and jars that can be used in recipes

If you have some time please spam the comments below with ideas or feel free to PM me!

Oh, I thought it was Country Living, but I can see how they can do an eco spin on it for Sims 4. That makes me even more interested.

Oh crap, I'm behind in the sims news, I'm going to go watch a video on it now.

Icemunmun has a canning mod. So I don’t care too much about that. Love the idea of composting and getting fertilizer like in sims 3. And I would love making cheese!

I feel like recycling would be a good addition if ea doesn't include that. Maybe an interaction with the trash cans and then you get a small bottle refund in simolians? That + composting goes a good bit of the way towards zero waste. Also something I build on a lot of lots is springhouses. My wife has one on her farm that they store root veggies and squash and milk in and also grow potatoes in. Goes along with having a spring or a well. Also pump houses for wells because filters need changing and cleaning and sometimes the pump just... stops. I don't know how complicated you want to get so I'm just throwing some stuff out there re: the farm I've been working on. They are on the grid, technically, but they lose power pretty often so they also have both a solar and a diesel generator. And the well pump is run on solar. So is the electric fence.

iirc icemunmun's canning mod isn't compatible with custom harvestables other than his own. I haven't had it installed for a while though so that may have changed.

BrazenLotus

Oh, I forgot one! Just added it to the list. :)

Ice just made a pump but a well would be nice one u got to dig for water >.> desert living irrigation systems, set traps and get pheasant or chicken or go hunting and get pork or beef, Cows from sims 3 convert to sims 4 or a goat with getting milk, make cheese or a churn option compatible with srsly items, a windmill that makes grain used to make bread, papyrus or paper used to write books instead of a computer, more woodworking furniture twigs used to make wicker set or canoe. the ability to worship, ask for a blessing from statues instead of the island spirit. soap/oil maker oil can be used for soaks also for messages and aroma soap keep u clean for 2 days. so far that all i can think off.

Oh how funny that I just messaged you about pretty much this! what awesome news, happy to support whatever you wish to make :)

ok so further to this and because i have viewed the new XPack. Some of the features you mentioned will be in this but it does not appear to have a composting system (or was that the item the young chap was using when he was hugging that maggot/catapillar. It seems to me that this new pack will help with integrating a few things that are already in the game and which will be coming up with the knitting pack, in particular, plopsy. I think that anything that you create that has a sellable function would be very useful like the cheesemaking. As I mentioned I absolutely love your foraging mod - it's one of my faves and Ive used in every style of gameplay recently ie rags to riches, teen runaway, orphan (my poor sims have a crap start to life). i am not sure if this helps or not but if I look at gameplay a lot of youtubers play challenges so I guess items that help with those. Edited to add that I am just so excited about this pack as finally I will be able to use your pumpkin and other recipes off the grid now huzzah!!

Cool ideas! I like the idea of preserves or just canning in general for fruits and veggies. Maybe a solar oven?

Composting, preserves and scavenging would add a lot for me - if none of them turns out to be in the pack. :)

BrazenLotus

I think composting is a popular one so I'm going to look into that tomorrow. I really like the spring house idea. In fact when I did some research on what they look like I think I found a way to make it work and make it so it keeps objects cool too :)

BrazenLotus

I saw her pump but what I have in mind is a little different. If I can get it to work properly I think you all will like it. Definitely going to do cheese and take a look at adding more woodworking recipes. Feel free to make some suggestions! :)

BrazenLotus

I think the bug house will likely give you fertilizer and that's EA's version of composting. I'm going to take a look tomorrow but I'm going to focus on a composting toilet and a compost pile. I LOVE the idea of Plopsy - we could use it for SO many things!

BrazenLotus

Yes, a solar oven is on my list but I have to create new tuning for it so it's probably a little ways out. I've been talking about doing preserves for a while and may look into it after the expansion comes out. Funny enough - I was just thinking about canned fruits veggies! I definitely think I'm going to do that one :)

BrazenLotus

Yes! I'm have some ideas about scavenging but I want to see what EA does with it in the new pack before I make anything from scratch. I'll probably be able to use their tunings which would make it easier!

Ok so another browse of the web. I am still excited about the new eco expansion, and probably am the only one - seems odd to me though as this exp pack will integrate the idea of a few of the packs together but ah well. I love the preserves idea and a composting toilet! So taking some of your ideas further: rainwater catcher/barrels, woodfired hot tub, or a wood fired oven actually., hydroponics, smokers just a few ideas not that you have to do them but good to spark ideas for you I hope :)

BrazenLotus

Rain barrels are on this list :) I still need to see what the tuning looks like with the new pack and once I do I can figure out if I want to use their interactions or add new ones. I think I actually saw a wood fired oven in the background of the pack so I want to wait on that. Wood fired hot tub is a good idea - let me marinate on that for a little :)

asislavender

For the new pack, do you think you could look into making a smaller, maybe under-the-counter trash compacter? That thing is so huge I don't think I'll ever end up using it!

Anonymous

I agree with the comment above, and since it seems like we will be getting some kind of brewing or juicing system for the new fizzy juices, it would be great if you could also make a countertop juicer or juice-making machine. Everything EA makes is always so darn big, taking up at least one or two floor tiles.

Anonymous

It also looks like we might be getting some ability to can or preserve some harvestables (since jars and cans were shown in or two of the renders and pictures) and it would be nice to be able to do this on the stove as well., rather than in a big machine.

Leila Beam

I would love large junk piles similar to the ones from Sims 3 ambitions that can be scavenged from and were you can get random furniture, food, etc that can be fixed up and used. I would especially love if we could dive into them like the haystack or a pile of leaves. I hope we get detonation back in game with this pack

BrazenLotus

I'll have to wait to take a look at the tuning before I say anything for sure - but I'll add smaller crafting objects to my list.

BrazenLotus

I had made a loose outline to do a 'trashy' set that included something like that. I think that the objects we're getting in the new pack will provide a nice base to start with :)

asislavender

I've been going through all the building materials to see what's eco/industrual and I have no clue if it's possible but I think it would be cool to be able to 'weatherproof' normal windows and doors to give them the eco bonus maybe using handiness and either simoleons or bits & pieces. I'm not sure if it's possible to make windows interactable though.
