Hey Patrons,

In keeping with spooky October feels, we've updated the school campus to include the Old School environment. 


There are a few bug-fixes and improvements in this build since the Diner build right at the end of September, thanks to everyone who submitted feedback and bug reports -

  • Overall performance has been improved dramatically
  • The visible polygons in the Sky Dome have been fixed
  • Visible seams / outlines on the 2Ds' necks have been fixed
  • The crash when changing some graphics settings has been fixed
  • More of the school grounds are now walkable

Some users reported a freeze at game start / the game failing to launch last time - the Spectator Mode / Mirror to Desktop now begins turned off by default, but will usually display a frozen / half loaded image on your monitor and looks like a crash, but should still be fine in the HMD. This isn't ideal and we'll do something more elegant at some point (such as displaying a splash screen with cute 2Ds or a message when Mirror is turned off). This feature is disabled by default because it gives you a little performance boost, can turn it back on in the Settings Menu.

Controls for new Patrons

Locomotion

  • Thumbstick (Rift) Trackpad (Vive) to move traditionally, on the motion controller with Feet icon - or
  • Point and Trigger press to teleport, on the motion controller with Feet Icon
  • Grip button and pan / rotate controller to rotate, on the controller with Feet icon

Interaction

  • Trigger on the motion controller with Hand icon to pick things up and drop things 
  • Grip button to readjust props while held

Modes

  • Shoulder button (Vive) or A button (Rift) to swap between Feet mode and Hand mode. Long press to open the Settings Menu
  • Point and Trigger press menu elements to select them

Known Issues

  • Stools are sometimes floating in the Diner
  • Teleporting while holding items can cause a physics explosion (Still)
  • Some areas aren't walkable
  • Many item / prop / furniture collisions aren't final

If you're supporting Virtual Novel but don't have VR yet, or just want to try out non-VR mode -

This build contains the beginning of our true non-VR mode. Virtual Novel will start in this mode if you have no HMD plugged in. Currently, you can navigate with Keyboard and Mouse or Gamepad, with standard first person shooter type controls. You can't interact with props or open doors in non-VR mode just yet. Non-VR players can open and close the menu with M or the Pause button on a gamepad, and select graphics options with left click or A (Xbox controller). Selecting any of the options in the Player tab will do nothing, as these are VR specific options. This mode is still very experimental, feel free to bug report or feature request for this mode, but please expect limited support.
