Here is a view of what the new motor mount will looks like.

  • Now use M3x10mm screws.
  • Better holding of the Z smooth rod.
  • Stiffer structure achieved by smaller center opening and proper support of the back of the stepper.
  • Avoid bad alignment due to 90° plates that could be over the Z vslot.
  • Easier to align with the bottom vslot. Last layer is made only with perimeters to have the smoother possible surface.
  • After several tests I found that the little front part of the Z motor mount was not changing rigidity once the stepper is mounted. However it could make bad alignment depending the print quality (over extrusion for example).
  • I also found that the third M5 screw was useless and in very rare case can affect the mount angle.
  • Smaller Z motor bearing protection against dust (yes I tested how dust affect it).
  • Stepper is a bit higher up.

Note that I can't share the STL with you right now as I did not designed the Z tops that goes with it and the old one are not compatible anymore.

For those that want to test it you can download the Z motor mount and temporary Z tops from here: https://www.ekunn.com/share/temp/bear_2.1_z_axis_patreon_testing_only.zip This is only temporary, the Z top will change for sure and there are chances that Z motor mount will change too. Print settings: PETG, 4 perimeters, 20% infill, 0.2mm layer height. You will need to mirror the Z top to have the other side.

Amazing!, Something a little off topic, but it would be great if the same official distributors of the bear kit sold a kit of all the necessary screws of the full bear upgrade including the ones you need for the x-axis :)
