Seeing Ground/Rock Pokemon manifest on Junior Professor's side made the retired soldier grin.

“Ha! Expected as much. You kids always try to exploit weaknesses like these! But I am prepared!”

As Lt. Surge said, the referee raised the flags.

“First battle! Magnemite vs Rhyhorn, begin!”

“Then I shall start first!” The tall blonde man motioned with his hand.

“Magnemite, use Flash Cannon!”

The Magnet Pokemon started to gather Steel Energy in front of it. It was a cannonball of pure energy which rushed towards the Spikes Pokemon.

“Use Ice Beam to block it.”

Ray instructed his Rhyhorn.

The Ground/Rock Pokemon opened its mouth and released the Ice-type attack.

Both attacks collided and cancelled each other in a small explosion.

“Not bad, kid! But my Magnemite knows more than this! Use Gyro Ball!” Lt Surge commanded his Pokemon.

The Magnet Pokemon started to spin and rush towards Rhyhorn.

This attack was another Steel-type move, and its speed depended on Pokemon’s speed.

“Catch it, Rhyhorn.”

The Ground/Rock Pokemon nodded as it waited for the right moment.

“C-Catch it?” The Lieutenant was confused for a second. But it was too late. Magnemite got close, and Rhyhorn got on his hind legs and slammed on Magnet Pokemon.

“Now, Earthquake.”

“...”

The earth shook with Electric/Steel Pokemon as its epicentre.

It was one hit K.O when Rhyhorn walked away. The opposing Pokemon had a swirl in its single eye.

“...Are you sure you are not a military kid? I never thought that your Pokemon could already utilise its body to such an extent!

I am impressed and happy! It makes me even more excited for upcoming battles!”

The Gym Leader recalled his Pokemon and clenched its Pokeball as if he were reliving his most intense battles.

It was clear enough that this man didn’t get PTSD from war but gave other people such a thing.

“Electrode, you are next!”

The blonde man threw his Pokeball, and a fully evolved Pokemon appeared.

“Electrode versus Rhyhorn, second battle, begin!” The punk referee swiftly got over his shock from that short battle and announced a second battle.

“Electrode use Rollout”

Ray already knew how this Pokemon would fight without Electric-type moves. Rolling and using Rollout was the only way to do it.

“Ice Beam on the ground!”

The Junior Professor instructed his Pokemon, and Rhyhorn followed his trainer’s orders and started to shoot ice and freeze the battlefield.

“Hahaha! I know you will do that! That is why…Electrode! Jump!”

The Sphere Pokemon jumped over the ice and lunged towards Spikes Pokemon like a cannonball.

“Quick, Rhyhorn, use Horn Attack to intercept.”

The Ground/Rock Pokemon’s horn glowed as it charged in as well.

The pair of Pokemon collided, but that's where Surge grinned as he was waiting to get close.

“Now Gyro Ball!”

Ray’s eyes widened for a second as he didn’t expect him to use Gyro Ball from such a close proximity!

“Earthquake Rhyhorn!”

What was next was an explosion and earth shake.

Once the smoke settled down, Rhyhorn was still standing. However, he was on his last leg.

“Damn, not bad. Just how many battles did your Pokemon survive?” the Gym Leader was pleased to see this Spikes Pokemon still standing, even knocking out his fully evolved Electrode.

“He has been battling nearly daily since I captured him.” Ray pulled out Rhyhorn’s Pokeball as he recalled his Ground/Rock Pokemon.

“Hahaha. I see, very good! It appears all the frustration I gathered from battling babies was worth it just for this battle!” Surge recalled his Electrode and then threw another Pokeball.

“Come out, Magneton!”

With a burst of white, the evolved form of Magnemite manifested.

‘Since it's Magneton, then I choose…’

“Let’s go, Vibrava!”

With a burst of light Ray’s Vibration Pokemon manifested in the air.

“Oh? Now that’s a foreign Pokemon! Hahaha, very well!”

The referee looked confused for a second, but he did his research quickly.

“Third battle Magneton vs Vibrava, Begin!”

“Magneton, use Tri-Attack!”

The Magnet Pokemon created three elements and moulded them together before launching at Vibrava.

“Intercept with Dragonbreath!”

The Ground/Dragon type released a stream of green flames, which slammed into the incoming attack.

“So it's part Dragon-type! Good to know! Now use Lock On and then charge your Zap Cannon!”

Ray’s eyes widen for a second.

‘Wait, he doesn’t want the damage. He is using that for status ailment!’

“Use Dig to dodge!”

The Junior Professor quickly instructed.

“Interesting! Let’s see if that will work!” Surge nodded curiously.

Magneton locked on Vibrava before creating a sphere of Electric-Type Energy and launching it at Vibration Pokemon, which was already underground.

The ball rushed into the hole towards Vibrava, and the earth trembled for a second. Then, the Ground/Dragon-type erupted from the ground and slammed into Magneton.

The power of the attack caused the Electric/Steel-type to crash on the ground.

“Now use Earthquake!”

“Not so fast, kid! Magneton, use Flash Cannon!”

The Magnet Pokemon swiftly created a ball of Steel energy and laughed at Vibrava, who burst Ground-type energy through the arena, slamming into Magneton.

The blast sends the evolved form of Magnemite away, knocking it out, but that's where Ray sees electricity crackling through his Vibration Pokemon.

‘That Zap Cannon worked, but I was able to dispose of Magneton before Surge could deal with the proper damage.’

Ray swiftly recalled his Vibrava before throwing another Pokeball.

“Let’s go, Pawniard!”

With a burst of white, Ray’s Unovan Pokemon manifested on the field.

“...What the hell is that!?” Surge pushed his sunglasses down for a second before looking at the Pokemon.

He had never seen one of these before! Vibrava was something he saw in Hoenn, but this one? Where did this one come from?

“This one is from Unova.”

“...Damn it, kid. And here I thought I had you figured out. But I was wrong. Fine, Voltorb, you are next!”

With hand motion, he threw his Pokeball, and a Voltorb manifested on the field.

Ray realised why he used this Pokemon. It was to test out what his Pawniard could do.

“...Umm… What is the name of this Pokemon?” The punk referee asked with a confused look.

“Pawniard.” The Junior Professor clarified.

“R-Right! Then Voltorb Vs Pawniard, Fourth Battle, begin!”

Surge swiftly ordered while Ray once again waited for the first move. He is dealing with Electric trainers, so they are always first to act, at least from what he has seen so far.

“Voltorb, use Thunderbolt!”

“Use Metal Claw to redirect it into the ground,” Ray instructed his Dark/Steel-type.

“...”

The blonde ex-soldier looked at this with a slightly baffled look.

The electric attack slammed into Sharp Blade Pokemon’s bladed hand. The Pokemon redirected to the ground like he was a lightning rod.

“Not bad. So this Pokemon is part Steel-type.” Surge stroked his chin before looking at Ray.

“For a moment, I thought you were training Ground-types exclusively, but it appears you are running low on those.” The gym leader grinned for a second, but Ray only smiled back.

“Maybe, who knows.” The Junior Professor then ordered his Unovan Pokemon.

“Pawniard, start with Sword Dance!”

The Sharp Blades Pokemon proceeded to dance, sharpening his blades.

“As if! Voltorb, use Rollout and get close!”

The Sphere Pokemon started to roll towards Pawniard.

‘He is getting close for that those Electric moves.’

“Use Dark Pulse to stop its advancement!” Ray swiftly ordered his Pokemon.

The Dark/Steel type created several rings of Dark-type energy and blasted at rushing Voltorb.

“We are prepared for that, kid! Dodge Voltorb!”

The ball-shaped Pokemon dodged the incoming attack, but because of that, it missed its mark as Pawniard simply spun out of the way.

“I know. But it was enough to dodge and make space! Now Sword Dance, Pawniard!”

Tsk!

“Blast it away! Use Thunder!” Surge realised what was going on. Ray is building up an attack on his Pawniard.

‘This kid just switched his fighting styles! Is it because he doesn’t have an advantage in types anymore?’

Lt Surge was caught slightly by surprise. He might be getting rusty after fighting babies all the time.

Voltorb spun around before releasing a massive amount of Voltage.

“Metal Claw! Redirect the blast!”

“Not so fast! Kid! Voltorb Rollout towards Pawniard!” The Sphere Pokemon started to roll towards Sharp Blade Pokemon while releasing Thunder.

When Ray saw this, there were a few sweats running down his forehead as he realised that this Pokemon was not a Gym one but a personal one!

To use two attacks at once? That could be considered cheating, but he won’t be giving up that easily!

“Charge in Pawniard! Use Metal Claw and attack incoming Voltorb!”

The Unovan Pokemon ignored the Thunder and dashed forward with glowing blades.

The rolling Pokemon slammed into Pawniard. But it didn’t budge that much. After all, it was part Steel-type, and it had been wrestling against Rhyhorn many times before.

“Now start slashing with Metal Claws!” Ray swiftly instructed, but this was where Surge grinned.

“Explode, Voltorb.”

The Ball Pokemon grinned before turning white.

**BOOM**

A large dust cloud erupted from the centre of the explosion.

‘I expect this much, but my Pokemon is part Steel-type. Explosion is categorised as Normal-type. Those barely work on Rock and Steel types.’

Ray tried to calm himself as this was still an explosion.

“Quite a Pokemon you got there, kid. These steel types are quite annoying to deal with,” Surge said from the other side of the field, as he had already seen what was going on.

A few seconds later, Ray could see as well.

Pawniard was still standing there, but his body was full of scorching marks. At the same time, Voltorb was rolling around with swirls in his eyes.

“Voltorb, return.”

Lt Surge recalled his Pokemon. With Voltorb’s defeat, he has only two left, while Ray still has three fresh Pokemon.

“Raichu! Let's kick some ass!”

With some serious power, Surge threw his Pokeball and Mouse Pokemon manifested on the field. Ray immediately looked at this Pokemon. He could feel some serious power radiating from this fully evolved Pichu evolutionary line Pokemon. It was far superior to what he saw from Ash last time.

“Raichu Vs Pawniard, Fifth Battle, begin!”

“Raichu, let's wrap this up, use Thunder! Blast that tin can!”

Static surged as Raichu released a massive blast of Thunder towards Pawniard!

“Redirect it, Pawniard!”

But the blast slammed seconds later, leaving not enough time for Dark/Steel-type to redirect it.

The blast of electric attack slammed into Sharp Blade Pokemon, making it fly away.

It was one hit– K.O.

‘That some serious power. The power of fully evolved Pokemon should not be underestimated.’

“Pawniard return,” Ray recalled his Unovan Pokemon before pulling out one of his trump cards.

“Onix! Let's go!”

With a casual throw of his Pokeball, the stone serpent manifested. It took nearly half of the field.

“...Hoh… so you have one of these.” Lt Surge commented from his side. He wasn’t that shocked. The Ex-soldier has his way of dealing with an Onix.

“Sixth Battle between the Gym Leader and the Challenger, Begin!”

“Raichu! Start with Iron Tail!”

The Mouse Pokemon’s tail glowed white as he intended to smack Onix, but Ray grinned as he instructed his Rock/Ground Pokemon.

“Intercept with Iron Head!”

The massive snake lunged at the mouse. The sheer difference between Rock Snake and Mouse Pokemon was enormous. Onix’s head alone was several times bigger than the whole of Raichu.

“Dodge! Raichu!”

Lt Surge didn’t expect Onix to know a move like Iron Head. He never heard of it. Steel-types were recently taking over the league by the storm. He himself bought a couple of T.M.s like Flash Cannon and Gyro Ball.

But the whole ‘Iron Head’ was a new thing.

So when Iron Head slammed into Raichu, it received the same treatment that Pawniard had to experience: it was sent flying to a wall.

“...Pika…” With the swirls in his eyes, the fully evolved Pokemon was knocked out.

“Well, Well, it has been ages since I was pushed so hard.”

The Gym Leader recalled his Raichu and then pulled out a Pokeball, which was hanging around his neck on a necklace.

“ELECTABUZZ! Let’s GO!”

In a burst of white particles, a big Electric Pokemon manifested.

Ray’s eyebrow went up when he saw the beast in front of him. This Pokemon was Lt Surge’s personal strongest one! He has no doubts about that!

Hell! It was at least a head and a half bigger than his Electabuzz!

“Seventh battle between Electabuzz and Onix begin!”

“Electabuzz Agility into Brick Break, let’s go!”

Lt Surge instructed at rapid speed, and his Pokemon followed to the ladder.

The Electric-type dashed at Onix at rapid speed.

“Onix! Earthquake! Quick!” Ray instructed his Pokemon.

“Not this time! Jump Electabuzz and deliver that pounding!”

The Electric Pokemon jumped over the incoming Earthquake and landed on Onix’s body.

“Not going to work, rotate your body, Onix.”

Ray already taught his Rock/Ground Pokemon about the utilisation of his body.

The rock segments started to move which forced Electabuzz to lose his grip and fall from Onix’s body.

“Now send him flying away with Iron Tail!”

The Rock Snake Pokemon moved and used his tail like a whip to smack the Electric Pokemon away.

Though the experienced Pokemon blocked the smack with crossed arms.

“Brick Break!” Lt Surge wasn’t worried as he instructed the Pokemon to get back on the offensive.

“Use Head Smash!”

With a furious roar, Onix rushed at Electabuzz, who was slamming his hand into Onix.

What happened next was something surreal as Electabuzz was able to hold his ground against someone who was much bigger than him!

‘Goddamn bullshit! That Electric overgrown feline can push a snake made from stones back!?’

“Use Earthquake!” Ray snapped out another command. The Rock Snake Pokemon smacked a segment of its body down, creating a wave of energy that blasted Electabuzz away.

Onix roared as he was satisfied with his victory in that exchange. But the Electric Pokemon stood up and looked seriously at Onix as if it was not ever yet.

‘What the hell is with that endurance?’

“...Impressive, it's your victory, kid.” Lt Surge recalled his Electabuzz, who passed seconds before it was recalled.

Ray slowly nodded. He wasn’t that happy. Sure, he was prepared, but he saw what a real amount of training could do. That Electabuzz could have wiped the floor with any other Pokemon.

His Charizard would have been roasted If it was a battle between those two.

‘In the end, typing is important.’

“Don’t sweat it, kid! You helped me lose some steam! I can go easy on those babies for a while again.” Lt Surge walked over and smacked Junior Professor’s back several times.

Pallet native nearly face-planted in the battleground, but he controlled himself.

“I guess…” As he said that, he recalled his Onix and faced the Gym Leader.

“Here is your badge and a ticket to the Cruise ship. I got one for free, but I do not feel like cruising. It's back to training for me.”

The blonde Ex-soldier handed over the badge and the ticket before walking away.

“...Thanks…”

Ray placed his badge in the badge case before inspecting the ticket.

‘I have a bad feeling about this. Isn’t this St. Anne?’

The Junior Professor remembered that this ship had sunk in the anime.

After pondering for a bit, he decided to head back to the Pokemon Centre.

~~~~~~Later~~~~~~
“Ray!”
Ray twitched, hearing that voice. It was Ash Ketchum.
“Ash? I Thought you already passed Vermillion City.” The Junior Professor smoothly lied as he turned around and looked at the ‘gang’.
He quickly noticed that they looked bad… like dirty.
“Hahaha, that's the thing…we got lost.” The fellow Pallet native rubbed the back of his head.
“...Right…” Ray looked at Misty and Brock, who looked similar to Ash. They were in bad shape.
“We took a ‘shortcut’, according to Brock.” Misty looked at Brock with a pissed-off look. Brock nervously laughed when he saw the girl’s gaze.
“We got lost in a forest, walking in circles.”
“Yes. But thanks to that, I got a full roster of Pokemon! Ray, I want a rematch—”
Before the Junior Professor could reply, Misty grabbed Ash’s ear and started to pull him away.
“You can have your rematch after we get rooms and shower and, most importantly, have a change of clothes.”
The girl just pulled him away.
Sigh
“Can he stop embarrassing my town?” Ray mumbled to himself. At least Garry is a braggart but can back it up. But this kid is just an embarrassment.
Regardless, he won’t be able to get away from Ash, as Ray needs to wait for that cruise ship.
After doing some research, he found out that the ship has a rare Pokemon egg shop and some cheap T.M.s, so that means he will need to have a full roster of his Water types and try finding a way to save the cruise ship.
He doesn’t want to drown or deal with Team Rocket.
‘Wait…’
Ray stroked his chin.
He got an idea.
The Junior Professor got his Ghost type, so why not use Hypnosis?
As he was thinking of strategies and waiting for his Pokemon. Ash descended from the upper floors and walked right to him.
“So let’s have that battle!”
“You don’t give up, do you?” Ray sighed as he closed his laptop.
“...Nope! Let's battle! It has been weeks since our last battle!” Ash was already pumped up.
“Ash, hold your Ponytas! Ray, do you even have a team of six? You are here after a gym battle, right?” Misty intercepted Ash and asked a crucial question.
“Yes. I had six vs six battles with Surge. I still have two unused Pokemon, so it will be enough against Ash’s team of six.” Ray casually said that he doesn’t think much about Ash’s team. His words had an obvious effect on his neighbour.
“...Oh yeah?”
That second, Ash got serious.
“Yeah. You still haven’t evolved your Starter. My one is already fully evolved.” Ray's eyes rolled at his neighbour.
“Pikachu can evolve anytime he wants!”
Sigh
“Sure. The trainer's job is to train his Pokemon and make them evolve.” He got up from his seat.
“Surge’s half of the team is evolved, and they are brutal. If not for my ground types, I could have lost it. You will be decimated if he thinks of getting serious.”
Ray motioned to follow him to the back of the Pokemon Centre.
Ash’s buddies followed after them.
“This is the first time I heard that Lt Surge offered a full six on six.” Brock, who was an ex-gym leader, knows other gym leaders.
“That’s because it was me.”
“...You?” The fellow Pallet Native was confused. Why so specific?
“Ray is Junior Professor, you dofus! Even the news channels are following him!”
“...What?” Even Ray was shocked to hear that!
“...You don’t know?” Misty looked surprised.
“I don’t watch TV. I Don’t have time for that.” Ray clarified what he meant by that.
“Well, the news only gives some general ideas as gym leaders have to give reports which they check. So my sisters bragged that you were in their gym, so people are predicting your next stop.”
‘Thank Arceus, I went to the power plant after Cerulean! Would I have been mobbed by fans if I went straight to Vermillion?’ A terrifying thought popped into his head as he swiftly brushed it aside.
“Well, anyway. Let’s do this battle. I still need to prepare my plans for future training and gym battles.” Ray swiftly changed the theme of conversation as he started to walk towards one of the sides of the Pokemon battlefield.
“I will be the referee for this!” Brock went to the middle of the battlefield while Ash went to his side.
“This a battle between Ash and Ray from Pallet Town. Substitutions are allowed, and Ray can only use two Pokemon, while Ash can use six. Now begin!”
Ray could only roll his eyes at how seriously Brock was trying to make this. But then again, the junior professor wants to see if Ash has his three starters.
“Fine! Squirtle, I choose you!” Ash turned his hat back and threw a Pokeball.
Tiny Turtle Pokemon manifested on the field. The Water-type pulled out his glasses and placed them on.
“Heh, a starter? Fine, Nidoking! Let’s go!”
Ray threw his Pokeball. With a burst of white, his massive Drill Pokemon manifested.
With a loud thud, the Poison/Ground Pokemon landed on the ground. Nidoking looked at his opponent with a grin, but then the Drill Pokemon realised that his opponent was a tiny thing!
Nidoking turned back and looked at his trainer.
“Nido! Nido!”
The fully evolved Pokemon complained about the ‘pipsqueak’ opponent.
“I know, I know, I won before you could fight. I am sorry.” Ray apologised.
“Squirtle! Squirtle!” But the Tiny Turtle Pokemon pointed his finger at Nidoking.
The Drill Pokemon returned to look at Squirtle before looking down at the little thing.
The Water-type Pokemon stomped his feet from anger.
“Enough. Brock, announce the battle.” Ray sighed as he looked at the referee.
“R-Right!” The ex-gym leader snapped out from his shock as he looked at Nidoking with a small amount of trepidation. What he was looking at was a beast!
“First Battle between Squirtle and Nidoking, begin!”
Ash pocked his Pokedex after checking Nidoking and instructed his Squirtle.
“Water Gun! Squirtle!”
The Tiny Turtle opened his mouth and released a stream of water at Nidoking, who was simply standing there.
The water slammed into Drill Pokemon, but Nidoking simply wiped his face and thanked him for a shower.
“Send him flying. Use Earthquake.”
The Poison/Ground stomped his feat and sent a wave of energy into Squirtle, who was dumbfounded that his attack did no damage.
“Squirtle! Dodge!” Ash realises that this attack is deadly, but it is too late, as Earth erupts and sends Tiny Turtle flying.
With a loud thud, the Water Starter landed with swirls in his eyes.
“N-No way…” Ash looked shocked to see this! His Squirtle is quite experienced, but against this Nidoking, he was useless!
“That’s one,” Ray commented with crossed arms, which his Nidoking copied mannerism of his trainer.
“Squirtle return!” The Pallet Native recalled his water starter and then threw another Pokeball.
“Bulbasaur, I choose you!”
“Bulba!” The Grass Starter manifested on the field.
“,,,Nido…” Nidoking sighed, seeing that he had to babysit again.
“Bulbasaur vs Nidoking, begin!” Brock declared a second fight with both hands.
“Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!”
The Seed Pokemon extended his vines as he tried to grab Drill Pokemon. Such action confused Nidoking, who wondered what such a pipsqueak could possibly do.
“Nidoking, yank Bulbasaur into yourself and then use Poison Jab,” Ray instructed with a sigh.
“Nido!”
The Poison/Ground yanked Bulbasaur towards himself with the vines and then charged a poison-type move with one hand. It was not a ‘jab’ but more like a Mega Punch variant, only with Poison energy instead of regular energy.
“B-Bulba!!!”
“No! Bulbasaur, use that moment to release Razor Leaf!” Ash tried to save the situation, but he never expected Nidoking to be that strong!
“Bulb—”
But then the fist rammed into Bulbasaur’s face. The force was so strong that he flew out of the battlefield and right into a fence. It looked like Nidoking was playing baseball instead of a Pokemon battle.
“That is two, Ash are you sure you want to continue? At least use an evolved Pokemon.” Ray grimaced before sighting as he preferred to research at this moment instead of wasting time like this…
“No! I won't. I still have four Pokemons!” Ash recalled Bulbasaur before throwing another Pokeball.
It was a familiar Pokemon Nidoking seen before. However, he has not seen this Pokemon for a while.
“Charmander, let’s show him what you can do!” Ash tried to pep talk. However, when Charmander saw his opponent, he palled.
“C-Char…”
Brock sighed as he raised his to declare a third battle.
“Charmander vs Nidoking begin!”
“Nidoking sent him packing with Venoshock.”
The Drill Pokemon opened his mouth, created an orb of purple energy, and blasted with absurd speed.
“Charmander, quick dodge!” Ash tried to instruct, but the Lizard Pokemon was simply staring at the incoming attack, which slammed into him with absurd force and knocked him out.
“Charmander is out; this battle goes to Nidoking.” Brock raised his hand at Ray and finally started to speak to Ash.
“Ash, you should forfeit your Pokemon. None of them is a match for Nidoking and his other Pokemon,” Brock said with a resigned tone.
“...Brock, but I still have Pikachu! He grew stronger after battles we had in the forest.” Ash was stubborn.
“You do realise that Pikachu is Electric, and my Nidoking can tank Electric Attacks from Zapdos. No electric attacks work on Ground type.” Ray said with a sigh.
“...Did you just say Zapdos?” Brock looks dumbfounded to hear that.
“Yeah, I fought him. He blasted my whole team with Steel Wing and Drill Peck.” Ray shrugged while Nidoking huffed when he heard Zapdos.
“I know, buddy. We will continue to train until Legendaries are under our feet.” The Junior Professor seriously said to his Drill Pokemon; it was more like a statement than a promise.
‘No wonder his Nidoking is that strong. They want to defeat legendaries.’ Brock sweatdropped hearing those words.
“FINE! I forfeit! But next time, I will be victorious!” Ash clenched his fist and exclaimed seriously.
“Ash. You first need to start training just to have a slimmer of hope.” Ray snorted before expanding on what he meant.
“Being ‘Pokemon Trainer’ doesn’t mean you just walking around and capturing them. Just look at Elite Four and Champion Lance. All of their Pokemon are fully evolved and trained for battle.” Ray pointed out at the people he knew Ash watched on TV.
“Ray is right, Ash.” Misty walked over with an annoyed look. The girl most likely had to suffer from Ash’s ‘hype’.
“...I get it…but…” Ray’s neighbour looked at Nidoking, who was towering over the whole group.
‘Is this Pokemon truly raised by Ray?’ Honestly, it was hard for Ash to believe this was Pokemon raised by someone who left Pallet Town on the same day as he did!
“Anyway. I have to return to my research. After all, I need to become a Pokemon Master.” Ray smirked while saying that. His words triggered Ash as he rushed right back into the Pokemon Centre, ignoring his friends. It would seem he went to see Nurse Joy.
“I hope he starts treating this seriously. He was lucky so far, but how long can that luck last?” Misty sighed as she massaged her forehead.
“Well, he might improve this time for sure.” Brock had a thoughtful look as he looked at Ray and his Pokemon.
“Your Nidoking is impressive. Is he one of your early catches?” Brock has not seen Nidoking from Ray before.
“My second catch after Pidgey. I have raised him from Nidoran.” Ray patted his Drill Pokemon, who puffed proudly, but then the Junior Professor looked serious.
“Get ready to stay here for a while. Because if this is what I saw from Ash he will stay here for a while. Surge is not a pushover.” Ray explained with a serious tone.
“I was prepared, so I won without much difficulty, but he has Electabuzz, who can push back my Onix.”
“...”
Gulp
“Yeah. so good luck. Maybe this time Ashy-boy will wake up.” After saying that, Ray recalled his Nidoking and waved his hand at the pair before walking away.
“That Ray… how does he raise his Pokemon? That Nidoking is not a pushover.” Brock was curious about what kind of food Ray was feeding his Pokemon. As a Pokemon Breeder, he was interested.
“No doubt he has several secrets he never shared with anyone.” Misty motioned with her hand. It was obvious to her.
“He might shared some things like how to raise Gyarados, but he probably has something similar for other pokemons like his Nidoking.” The girl pointed out her speculations.
“Yes. but it was only a few short months since he started his journey, and there is still more than half a year until Indigo Plateau.” Brock commented as he realised that Ray’s Pokemon could become seriously dangerous by the time the tournament started.
‘Is he already planning to win the whole thing in his first attempt?’ Brock realised how serious Ray was with his training.
Matt
Would be cool if you do some joint training of charizard with Pidgeotto…because if he could have a charizard that learns aerial ace and then use time between MC and the 3 of them to learn steel wing you could have a devastating combo move of aerial ace and steel wing
Great chapter!! The fight with surge was fun 😁 Poor ashy-boy 🤣🤣
